2. DESCRIPTION
This flush mounting dimmer operates according to the phase control
principle and is suitable for dimming incandescent lamps, halogen lamps
230V~, dimmable, ferromagnetic transformers and electronic transformers
designed for phase control. These loads can be mixed. Total connected
load: max. 550VA. Provided with a PLC filter. The dimmer can be remotely
controlled by means of N.O. contacts. Max. 30 non-illuminated push
buttons connected in parallel.
3. INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONS
For connecting the dimmer, see the wiring diagrams.
To meet possible tolerances caused by irregularities in the plaster or by
the use of multiple cover plates, the in-between plate is provided with a
setscrew (fig.1).
If the button still has play, turn the setscrew to the left (fig.1). If the dimmer
is automatically activated (without operating it), then turn the setscrew
to the right (fig.1).
4. OPERATION AND USE
4.1. Normal operation
The dimmer is provided with a PLC filter. This ensures that interference
caused by signals that are sent over the mains is suppressed as much
as possible. Lamps that are connected by means of dimmers cannot be
regulated to their max. light intensity. Compared to an identical lamp
connected directly to the mains, the light intensity will always be somewhat
less. At full load, the dimmer consumes a max. of 5W.
'Frequency dips' of up to 3Hz are absorbed by reducing the light intensity,
avoiding blinking in case of a sudden drop in the mains frequency. The
dimmer can be adjusted to the max. during the next operation. After
switching on the mains voltage, it can take up to 20s. (40Hz) before the
dimmer can be operated (depending on the mains frequency).
4.2. Memory function
The dimmer can be used both with or without memory. As a standard, the
dimmer operates with memory function. In order to modify this function, it
suffices to keep the operating button pressed for 10s. at max. light level.
After 10s., the light will dim from 100% to 50% in order to indicate that
this function has been switched off. Immediately let go of the push button
after this change in light intensity. If you do not let go of the push button
immediately, the switchover from 'with memory' to 'without memory', or
vice versa, does not take place. Repeat this procedure to activate the
memory function again. This function, as well as the last set light level, is
stored in a permanent memory. They are not lost in case of a power cut.
With memory function, the dimmer first switches on at min. light level.
Afterwards, the dimmer switches on to the last set value.
With memory
- Press briefly: on at previous level / off
- Press long: dim up/down
- Press long in 'off' position: the dimmer dims up from 0%
- When dimming up: the dimmer stops at max. level
- When dimming down: the dimmer stops for 2s. at min. level and then
dims up
- Renewed press (longer) reverses the dim direction

Without memory
Press briefly in 'off' position: the dimmer switches on at max. level
Apart from this, the operation is identical to the operation 'with memory'.
Push button operation
press briefly < 400ms.
press longer > 400ms.
= on/off
= dim up/dim down
Several operating points with NO-contacts (non-illuminated) can be
connected. See the wiring diagrams for the correct connection. Max. 30
NO-contacts (170-00000) can be connected in parallel. The max. distance
is 100m. The push buttons are not galvanically isolated (230V, 5mA). The
operation and functioning are identical to the operation on the dimmer
itself, as described above.

5. TROUBLESHOOTING
- Possible causes if the dimmer does not function:
- the mains voltage is not connected;
- the fuse has blown;
- the load is not connected;
- the lamp is defective;
- the thermal protection has been activated;
- any combination of the above-mentioned causes.
- The dimmer is provided with a thermal protection. If the temperature rises
too high, the dimmer switches off. The dimmer automatically switches
on again if the temperature has reduced sufficiently. If the temperature
does not drop, please check:
- if the load is not too high;
- the temperature in the flush mounting box. If it is too high, reduce the
load.
- Checking the fuse:
- bipolar interruption of the power supply voltage;
- disconnect the fuse box;
- measure the resistance of the fuse;
- only use original replacement fuses of the type F3,15AH (04-226-20)
6. WARNING
- When mounting the dimmer in the immediate vicinity of an audio installation,
it is recommended to provide the connection wires between the different
parts of the installation with shielded wire.
- Signals sent via the mains can disturb the operation of the dimmer. A
digital PLC-filter is built in to suppress this effect.
- In normal use, this dimmer will produce a limited amount of heat. Provide
a heat outlet. Do not cover the dimmer with insulating material. Take into
account that the max. amount of power is limited when several dimmers
are placed on top of or next to each other.
- When several dimmers are flush mounted on top of each other, the
temperature in the distribution board can be too high. This can effect
the operation of the dimmer (limitation of the max. amount of power
– thermal protection). Do not place the dimmers on top of each other
when they are all loaded to the maximum.
- When using halogen lighting with ferromagnetic transformers, take into
account the efficiency of the transformers. Load these transformers for
at least 80% of their nominal power. Take into account the efficiency of
the used transformer when determining the total load of the dimmer.
The transformer has to be suitable for dimming.
- Electronic transformers can behave unstably if the wire between the
transformers and the lamps is longer than 2m.
- After a power cut, the appliance returns to it's previous situation.
- The dimmer and the central cover plate are supplied together. Both the
push button and the cover plate must be assembled before the mains
is connected (see wiring diagrams).
- Use without the cover plates is prohibited.
- When using a wound transformer, please ensure that the transformer is
suitable for use in combination with an electronic regulator.
- The dimmer is never electrically seperated from the mains by operating
the control. All components therefore remain live even if the load (e.g.
the light) is switched 'off'.
- This device is not suitable for controlling motors unless the specific safety
requirements are guaranteed by external systems.
- The dimmer works with a triac and a suppressor coil. It is possible that a
vibration or buzz caused by the suppressor coil will be heard, depending
on the load and the light level.
- The use of mixed loads (inductive + capacitive electronic transformers)
is not allowed.
