6. Faults
WARNING!
Physical injuries and damage to property and the environment caused by hazardous media
Upon contact with hazardous media (e.g. oxygen, acetylene, flammable or toxic substances), harmful
media (e.g. corrosive, toxic, carcinogenic, radioactive), and also with refrigeration plants and compres-
sors, there is a danger of physical injuries and damage to property and the environment.
▶
Should a failure occur, aggressive media with extremely high temperature and under high pressure
or vacuum may be present at the instrument.
▶
For these media, in addition to all standard regulations, the appropriate existing codes or regulations
must also be followed.
▶
Wear the requisite protective equipment.
For contact details see chapter 1 "General information" or the back page of the operating instructions.
In the event of any faults, first check whether the flow switch is mounted correctly, mechanically and electrically.
If complaint is unjustified, the handling costs will be charged.
Fault
No output signal
No output signal/cable break
No/wrong output signal
Wrong output signal
Wrong output signal and too long
response time
Signal span too small
Signal span drops
WIKA operating instructions flow switch, model FSD-4
Possible cause
Cable break
No/wrong supply voltage
Mechanical load too high
Wiring error
Process temperature out of measuring range;
sensor drift caused by overtemperature
Sensor break/short-circuit
Sensor drift caused by chemical attack
Wrong mounting geometry, for example mounting
depth too small and heat dissipation too high
Deposits on the sensor element
Supply voltage too high/low
Moisture has entered
Measure
Check the continuity
Rectify the supply voltage
Replace probe with a suitable design
Observe the pin assignment
Check temperature range
Send the instrument to the manufacturer
Check media compatibility
Move the temperature-sensitive area of the
sensor into the medium
Remove deposit
Rectify the power supply
Fit the cable correctly
