5. 200 ton only–Secure the hose to the frame using a
hose clamp and a machine screw.
4.3 Installing the Hydraulic Pump (Figure 15)
(See Figure 15 for an example of an electric pump)
1. If the pump is not a large, free-standing model, install
the large angle bracket (O) to the frame spacer mid-way
up the left frame. Use two
lockwashers and nuts.
2. Use a lifting device to raise and position heavy pumps
on the bracket. Attach the pump (P) to the bracket using
capscrews, bolts, lockwashers and nuts provided in the
pump mounting kit. The mounting configurations and
hardware are shown in Figure 14.
3. Remove the shipping plugs from the pump control valve
ports. If the pump does not have a gauge port, install a
gauge adapter (Q) in the advance port before installing
a pressure gauge.

leaving the first thread free of tape to ensure that tape does
not enter the hydraulic system.
4. Attach one end of a hydraulic hose to the advance port
or the gauge adapter and the other end to the upper
coupler on the hydraulic cylinder. Connect the other
hose from the retract or return-to-tank port on the pump
to the lower coupling on the hydraulic cylinder.

CAUTION: Check all hydraulic hoses to be sure the
fittings and couplers are tight and leak free. Check
hose positions to be sure the hoses are located to
avoid damage during press operations.
5.0 OPERATION
NOTE: All references to left or right sides are as viewed with
the hydraulic jack to the right.
WARNING: Keep hands away from the bolster and
frame when repositioning the bolster with the lifting
jack.
The following procedures will raise or lower the bolster
ONE position. Due to the length of the lifting jack plunger,
this procedure must be repeated for every position.
5.1 Raising the Bolster (Figure 16)
1. Open the release lever on the P-51 hand pump. Grasp
the chain and pull down until the lift jack plunger is fully
extended. Place a chain link in the bolster slot (R).
Close the pump release lever.
WARNING: Make sure lifting chain is fully and
securely engaged in the bolster slot (R) before
repositioning the bolster.
2. Slowly pump the handle until the right bolster pin (S) is
loose. Remove the retainer from the end of the bolster
pin. Remove the bolster pin. Insert it into the hole
directly below the bolster.
3. Operate the pump and raise the bolster (T) until the left
pin is loose. Remove the retainer and pull the bolster
pin out.
4. Using the hand pump, raise the bolster until the left hole
is aligned with the hole in the next higher position. Insert
the bolster pin and replace the retainer.
5. Using the pump, lower the bolster until the right pin can
be installed. Replace the retainer on the pin.
6. Remove chain from the bolster slot to eliminate
inadvertent loading of the chain.
