and connect the measuring tips to the object to be
measured [in series as described; with the correct
polarity if possible when measuring DC current (red to
plus, black to minus)] . A minus sign appears before
the measured value in the case of a negative current
flow.
4. If the over-range symbol (OL) appears when using
manual range selection, switch immediately to the
next higher range . If the highest range or automatic
measurement range selection is selected and the
over-range symbol appears, switch off the voltage on
the object to be measured immediately and discon-
nect the measuring instrument from the object to be
measured.
5. If there is no display even though all connections have
been made precisely, the reason could be that the
internal fuse that protects the current measurement

ranges has blown (see 'fuse replacement').
6. If the measured current is smaller than 400 mA and
you had previously selected the 10 A range as a pre-
caution, you can plug the red measuring cable into
the mA socket and switch to the mA range . This pro-
vides you with a higher resolution display than in the
10 A range.
When measuring higher currents from 400 mA up-
ward in the 10 A range, a maximum measurement
time of 30 s per measurement must be adhered to,
as otherwise the device could be damaged due to
heating up excessively.
Measurement of resistance
Before measuring resistance, continuity or diodes,
switch off the current in the circuit and discharge
all capacitors.
