Genumedi
Intended purpose
The Genumedi pro ROM is a knee brace for reinforcing and stabilising the
knee by limiting its flexion and extension. The product is to be used for
orthotic management of the knee exclusively and only on intact skin.
Indications
All indications in which physiological guidance of the knee joint and/or
relief of the joint must be ensured, such as:
• Mild to middling instability, chronic instability
• Meniscus injury
• Traumatic or degenerative changes in the knee joint
• Mild to middling knee osteoarthritis
Contraindications
No general side effects are known. However, if supports (or similar aids)
are too tight, local pressure effects or constriction of blood vessels or
nerves may occur in individuals. Opening the webbing and less tight
closure counteract these. If you have any of the following complaints
please conult your doctor before using the brace:
• Diseases or injuries of the skin in the area of use, especially with
inflammatory symptoms (excessive warming, swelling or reddening).
• Sensitivity and perfusion disorders of the legs or feet (e.g. in the case of
diabetes).
• Lymph outflow disorders, as well as undiagnosed swellings of soft
tissues, apart from the area of use.
Any combination with other products (e.g. compression stockings) must
be discussed in advance with the responsible doctor.
Mode of Action / Comment on Wear
The integrated silicone ring of the Genumedi pro ROM reduces stress
on the kneecap. Together with the compression of the knitted fabric,
it causes a massage effect. This enhances perfusion of the joint and
decreases swelling and effusion. Irritation and pain are alleviated. At the
same time, muscular control and inherent stabilisation of the knee joint
are improved. The medial and lateral polycentric joint splints provide
added support. The knee's range of movement can be limited, in terms of
its flexion and extension.
Supports are most beneficial during physical activity. The support can
in principle be worn throughout the day. This must depend on how
comfortable the wearer is. Moreover, the knee may not be bent by more
than 70° when sitting. The support should be removed for long breaks
(e.g. long periods sitting, long drives or sleeping).
Setting the restrictions for flexion and extension and adjustment
(can only be carried out by an orthopaedic technician)
Extension restriction wedges, E (stretch restriction): 10°, 20°, 30°, 45°
Flexion restriction wedges, F (bend restriction) 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°
• Your knee brace comes with 10° extension wedges pre-installed.
• To change the wedges, pull the joint splints at the top end out of the
joint pocket on the side (Fig. 1). To facilitate removal, undo the top strap
and remove it before carrying this step out.
• Insert the flexion wedges (F) and then the desired extension wedges (E)
into the side of the articulated joints and fasten them with the attached
screws (Fig. 2).
• The joint splints on the side are made of aluminum and can be shaped to
fit patient needs as required.
• Finally, push the joint splints back into the joint pockets and put on the
strap again, threading it through the strap loops. Please note that the
slight curve in the belt curves upwards here, like an arc.
