Stud centers must be verified

Locate the stud. Verify the center of the stud using an awl, a thin nail, or an edge to edge stud
finder. Mark the center of the stud with a pencil.
2.
Place the wall plate
at your desired height, over your stud center lines. Level the wall

and mark the four hole locations.
