Setting Gain Level
Check the volume position of both channels before turning the system on!
Turn the 500WU ON at the master power switch on the back of the receiver [7].
The 500WU comes with one or two 701DR Diversity Receiver Modules – one for
each FM channel. With the transmitters turned ON and microphone positioned
correctly, slowly increase the volume controls to a comfortable listening level.
Avoid excessive amplification – speech should be comfortably audible through-
out your listening area. Note that volume must be adjusted from the speaker;
neither the 7LT nor the 701TS are equipped with volume controls. Both trans-
mitters are equipped with a MUTE switch, so that the audio signal may be inter-
rupted at any time.
On the left of the back panel of the 500WU [5] there is a screw-adjust tone
control. This will change the tone quality of the 500WU's built in speaker.
Useful Tips
• Adjust the microphone for comfort and ensure especially that the mic cap-
sule is positioned correctly.
• Wear the transmitter in the supplied belt pack. The belt pack is more secure
than the belt clip and will protect the transmitter and delicate microphone
from drop damage.
• Consider wall-mounting the Simeon 500WU receiver or using a tripod floor
stand to ensure it is placed optimally.
• Avoid excessive amplification - soundfield FM will make speech clearly au-
dible at a comfortable listening level.
• Use the screw-adjust tone control on the rear panel to fine tune sound qual-
ity. Your audiologist or sound professional may assist with this adjustment.
• Keep the soundfield receiver away from classroom computers, which are
sometimes a source of radio interference.
• Avoid approaching very close to the 500WU portable soundfield receiver
with the microphone turned on - this may cause a squeal or feedback from
the speaker.
• Use only the recommended batteries and correct power adapters for the
receiver and the charging cradle.
• If you have forgotten to charge the receiver and the internal battery is low,
it may be operated from the classroom AC supply via the charging power
adapter.

Battery Care and Charging
For best performance, use only the included Nickel Metal-Hydride (NiMH) size
AA rechargeable transmitter batteries.
in combination with the charging system.
The Simeon 500WU system is supplied with one of two transmitter charg-
ing cradle models. The Simeon HDC-707 transmitter charging cradle accepts two
Simeon 7LT Transmitters. The Simeon HDC-702 accepts one of each the 7LT and
the 701TS. Charge the transmitter and receiver after each day of use. The trans-
mitters should be turned OFF before charging. The charging indicator lights [33,
36] will show charging progress: amber during charging and green when com-
plete.
The 500WU will operate on either an AC supply via the charging power adapt-
er or on the internal 12-volt rechargeable battery pack. It is possible to replace
the receiver battery. To do so, please contact your local customer service repre-
sentative.
Microphone care
The microphone is the most delicate component of your soundfield system.
Protect the microphone from strain and excessive force. Clean the pin of the mi-
crophone plug regularly and replace damaged or missing windscreens and pro-
tect the microphone capsule from moisture.
The Simeon 623 boom (headset) microphone has a unidirectional pick-up pat-
tern. The tip of the mic capsule must be pointed towards the corner of the mouth
for proper performance. See Figures 5 & 6.
