HomeWorksR QS processor
HQP6-2
Installation Instructions
24 V - 250 mA
Typical Power Consumption: 5 W
Please Read Before Installing
Use these instructions to install the model number listed above.
Installation
WARNING! Shock hazard. May result in serious injury or death. To avoid the risk of
electric shock, locate and remove fuse(s) or lock circuit breaker(s) in the OFF position
for all circuits entering the panel before proceeding.
1. Install processor: The HomeWorksR QS processor can be installed in an LV21 enclosure, an
LV14 enclosure or a PNL-8 panel. Refer to Figure 1 and the HomeWorksR QS software for
mounting configurations. The HomeWorksR QS processor is attached to the enclosure using
two mounting screws provided.
2. Connect power: The processor is powered from the QSPS-DH-1-60 power supply. Connect
the harness from this supply to the PWR terminal block on the processor (see Figure 2).
This harness has 4 conductors, 1 black and 3 red. The black wire connects to pin 1 – COM
and one of the red wires connects to pin 2 – P to power the processor. The other two wires
may be connected to pins 3 and 4 (L1 and L2) depending on whether the configurable links,
L1 and L2, require power. Refer to the HomeWorksR QS software to determine link power
requirements.
3. Connect processor ground wire: Connect the pre-stripped end of the ground wire
(included) to terminal 5 (
) of the PWR terminal block. Connect the spade lug end of the
wire to the panel using the included serrated screw as demonstrated in the LV21 in Figure 2.
4. Turn power ON: Restore the supply breaker to the ON position. If applicable, turn the input
power switch ON (refer to Figure 1).
5. Verify operation: Confirm that the unit is powered by referring to the PWR LED on the front
of the unit. Further diagnostic information can be obtained from the additional diagnostic
LEDs on the unit. Please refer to Figure 3 for explanation of the diagnostic LEDs.
6. Connect Ethernet Links: The Ethernet links on the HomeWorksR QS processor are used for
communicating to the HomeWorksR QS software, integrating with third party components and
connecting multiple processors together. HomeWorksR QS processors may either be connected
using standard networking (see 6a below) or using ad-hoc networking (see 6b below). All
processors on a project must be connected to a single network. The HomeWorksR QS software
and all integration equipment must be connected to the same network as the processors.
a. To use standard networking, run a single Ethernet cable (CAT5 or better) from an existing
network switch or router to one processor in each processor panel. From this processor
you may connect the other processor in the panel using the second Ethernet jack on the
processor (see Figure 4a).
b. To create an ad-hoc network, daisy chain up to 5 processors together (using CAT5 or
better cable). Make use of both Ethernet jacks on each processor (see Figure 4b). To
connect the HomeWorksR QS software, plug the computer into one of the two open ports
on a processor at either end of the processor chain. Note: When connecting to integration
equipment, this configuration will not work; please use standard networking.
The type of cable used (straight-through or crossover) does not matter when connecting
HomeWorksR QS processors. To confirm physical connectivity refer to the lights on the
Ethernet jacks. The orange LED (ACT) will flash when Ethernet signals are being transmitted
or received. The green LED (CON) will illuminate when the link is connected to another
Ethernet device.
7. Connect communication links: The HomeWorksR QS processor has two configurable
RS-485 links (L1 and L2) for communicating with HomeWorksR QS system devices.
Refer to the HomeWorksR QS software, device installation instructions, and specification
documentation for details on link types and wiring details. For links configured as "HWQS
Power Panel", LT-1a link terminators must be installed across terminals 3 and 4 at both ends
of the daisy chain link.

Power Indicator
LED turns on solid GREEN (not flashing) when power is applied to the
processor.
Error Indicator
LED turns on RED for 3 seconds each time an error is detected in the
system. LED is OFF when the system is working normally.
Processor Heartbeat
Flashes GREEN during normal operation. Under normal conditions will
flash green 1 to 5 times per second.
Database Activity Indicator
Flashes RED during periods in which internal database memory is being
written. This LED will normally NOT flash red unless a database transfer or
OS upgrade is occurring.
Link 1 Heartbeat / Status Indicator
Flashes GREEN once per second when Link 1 is operational.
Turns on solid RED when link 1 power is shorted or overloaded. After
shorted or overloaded condition is cleared, will flash once per second for
5 seconds to indicate that power to the link has been restored.
Link 1 Receive / Transmit Indicator
Turns on ORANGE for 1/4 second each time a message is received from
or sent to Link 1.
Link 2 Heartbeat / Status Indicator
Flashes GREEN once per second when Link 2 is operational.
Turns on solid RED when link 2 power is shorted or overloaded. After
shorted or overloaded condition is cleared, will flash once per second for
5 seconds to indicate that power to the link has been restored.
Link 2 Receive / Transmit Indicator
Turns on ORANGE for 1/4 second each time a message is received from
or sent to Link 2.
