Read paragraph "LIMITATIONS ON THE USE OF THE GAS DETECTOR"
INSTALLATION: AREAS TO BE AVOIDED
– Detectors should not be fitted in separate areas or behind doors, parti-
tions or other obstacles that could hinder the flow of gas towards the
detector.
– Detectors should not be fitted in areas where the temperature could fall
below -5°C or rise above +35°C.
– Detectors should not be fitted in small areas where volatile solvent-
Methane is lighter than air, so it rises
and accumulates at the highest point
of the room. Initially, the highest con-
centration of gas is found next to the
ceiling. Where the ceiling is horizon-
tal and flat, the detector should be fit-
ted at a distance of
30 cm from
the ceiling. The detector should be
located above the level of the highest
window or door opening. In the case
of higher then average or non-hori-
zontal ceilings, the gas company
should be consulted as to the most
suitable position for the detector.
As LPG is heavier than air and it lies
in layers at the lowest point of the
room, the highest concentration is
found at floor level. The detector
should be fitted with its central axis
perpendicular to the grill, at a distan-
ce of
30 cm. form the lowest
walking surfaces of the floor. It should
not be placed either adiacent to out-
side doors, or on the floor. The detec-
tor should not be in a position where
it could be damaged (for example
during normal cleaning, washing or
accidental knocking etc..)
based substances such as aerosol sprays and ammonia may be used.
– Detectors should not be fitted directly onto gas appliances.
– Detectors should not be fitted over sinks or in particulary humid rooms.
Warning
Air currents caused by fans, or by open windows or doors can prevent
"contact" between gas and the detector.
These situations should therefore be avoided.
