Rear parking assistant
The accessories are intended for professional fitting. ŠKODA AUTO recommends that they are
fitted by a contractual partner.
The rear parking assistant, order number 5JJ 054 630, is designed for ŠKODA Rapid (NH1)
vehicles. This assistant makes it easier to reverse park your vehicle. Three sensors in the rear
bumper monitor the distance between the vehicle and any potential obstacles. An acoustic
signal through the speaker keeps the driver informed about how much space he has.
If an obstacle appears at a distance of 140 cm behind the vehicle, this is signalled by short
beeps in one-second intervals. This interval becomes shorter as the distance to the
obstacle decreases. At a distance of 30 cm, the beeping turns into a continuous tone
(STOP signal). Furthermore, the volume of the tone changes in increments; see the indi-
vidual zones in fig. 16.
The parking assistant is not connected to any data connection and is therefore not diag-
nosable with a VAS device.
Important fitting notes
Note. The vehicle must be clean, preferably after being washed in a car
wash.
Before the bonding procedure, use a suitable cleaning agent to thoroughly clean and
degrease all surfaces for bonding the parking sensor brackets, the control unit, the speaker
and the foam rubber adhesive tapes. Leave it to dry for 10 minutes. Once this is done, do not
touch these areas, otherwise this may compromise the proper bonding of individual compo-
nents.
Caution. When fitting the components, ensure the work area is
adequately ventilated – the cleaning agents contain dangerous fumes.
Fitting procedure
When fitting the components, the vehicle battery should be disconnected (in vehicles with a
coded radio, first request the code).
The individual components are removed and refitted according to the instructions in the
ŠKODA repair manual.
Remove the following components:
- Rear bumper,
- Left rear light,
- Luggage compartment left side panelling.
Caution. When removing the rear bumper, proceed with extreme care
in order to avoid causing any damage. If required (to facilitate the
removal), also remove the other rear light.
