12. Working With the Wall Chaser
Always guide the device with both hands on
the main handle (5) and side handle (3).
Only use the wall chaser with the side handle
(3) attached!
Position the side handle so that it can be
gripped firmly without touching the guard.
Contact with live wires energises the metal parts of
the housing and can cause electric shock to the
operator.
The side handle (3) may be adjusted after the screw
(14) is undone. Bring the side handle to the desired
position and tighten the hex screw (14).
At the rear end of the guide shoe (12) there is a
triangular marking (9). The marking is on the
extension of the rear diamond cut-off wheel and is
used, when cutting grooves, as a cut indicator.
Place the wall chaser (with the motor switched on)
with the guide shoe (12) on the surface into which a
groove is to be cut, and slowly guide down until the
set cutting depth has been reached.
Then pull the machine in the chase direction, e.g.
from top to bottom as shown in Fig. A below (page
4) or – for horizontal chases – back towards itself as
shown in Fig, B (page 4).
Once the groove is complete, switch off the
tool and hold it steady until the diamond cut-off
wheel comes to a stop. Never attempt to remove
the cutting disc from the cut while the wheel is
in motion otherwise kickback may occur. Lay
the tool on its side.
You can remove the remaining strip between the
two chases with the chase extraction chisel
provided.
Grooves of greater depth cannot be cut into
hard material (e.g. cement) in one movement.
13. Cleaning
It is possible that particles deposit inside the power
tool during operation. This impairs the cooling of the
power tool.
The power tool should be cleaned regularly, often
and thoroughly through all front and rear air vents
using a vacuum cleaner or by blowing in dry air.
Prior to this operation, separate the power tool from
the power source and wear protective glasses and
dust mask.

14. Overload protection

14.1 Safety clutch
There is an automatic safety coupling built-in to the
gears of the wall chaser. This protects the operator
from the high torque that may, for example, occur if
the diamond cut-off wheel is canted during work.
The safety coupling protects and at the same time
takes the strain off the motor and the gears of the
machine. When the safety coupling engages,
immediately switch the motor off (do not allow the
coupling to drag!),
16
14.2 Electronic overload protection
In the event of a brief, very high overloading of the
machine, the integrated electronic overload
protection limits the power consumption and thus
prevents the overheating of the machine.
15. Accessories
Use only genuine Metabo accessories.
Use only accessories which fulfil the requirements
and specifications listed in these operating
instructions.
Metabo diamond cut-off wheels:
diameter 125 , laser-welded, suitable for dry cutting,
bore = 22.2 mm, for wall chaser MFE 30
Area of use
for hard and medium-hard
materials (e.g. concrete, including reinforced
concrete)
for abrasive materials
(e.g. abrasive cement, sandstone,
sand-lime brick, aerated concrete and similar)
For a complete range of accessories, see
www.metabo.com or the catalogue.
16. Repairs
Carbon brushes: When the carbon brushes on the
machine are worn, the automatic switch-off system
cuts out the power and the machine comes to a
standstill.
Repairs to electrical tools must be carried out
by qualified electricians ONLY!
Contact your local Metabo representative if you
have Metabo power tools requiring repairs. For
addresses see www.metabo.com.
You can download a list of spare parts from
www.metabo.com.

17. Environmental Protection

The sanding dust generated may contain
hazardous materials: do not dispose of with the
household waste, but at a special collection point
for hazardous waste.
Observe national regulations on environmentally
compatible disposal and on the recycling of disused
machines, packaging and accessories.
Only for EU countries: Never dispose of
power tools in your household waste! In
accordance with European Directive 2002/
96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment
and its implementation in national legal systems,
used power tools must be collected separately and
handed in for environmentally compatible recycling.
