Factors/circumstances constituting respiratory hazard cannot be eliminated by other means.
A suitable and sufficient risk assessment has been carried out which identifies the hazards present
and the level of risk.
The risk assessment should identify:
The hazardous substances/chemicals present in the atmosphere, their physical state (liquid, vapour,
solid, gas), and likely levels of contamination.
Other hazards in the workplace, e.g. flying or falling solid objects, liquid splashes, molten, metal
splashes, potentially explosive atmospheres, noisy environments, UV, IR radiation etc.

Remarks, limitations
"Open" facepieces, such as helmets or hoods,
do not provide sufficient protection in case of
breakdown or inferior output of the blower.
Therefore, devices of class TH1 must never
be used against carcinogenic, very poisonous
or radioactive gases and vapours.
For devices with combined filter apply the
relevant limitations of gas and particle filters.
