INTENDED USE
This tool is intended for use with Type 27 depressed center grinding wheels for metal removal. It is not to be used with cone wheels, cup wheel or straight
wheels. THE GUARD MUST BE IN PLACE AT ALL TIMES!
AIR SUPPLY
The efficiency and life of this tool depend on the proper supply of clean, dry air at a maximum of 90 PSI. The use of an air line filter, pressure regulator, and
lubricator is recommended. Before connecting to tools, blow out the air line to remove water and dirt that may have accumulated.
HOSE AND HOSE CONNECTIONS
The air supply hose recommended is 3/8" (10mm) I.D. If an extension hose is necessary, use 1/2" (13mm) ID hose with couplings not less than 3/8" (10mm) I.D.
LUBRICATION
All models may operate without airline lubrication. However, operating the tool without airline lubrication may reduce tool performance and vane life. If an
airline lubrication is not used, it is recommended that the tool be oiled daily before use to improve performance. Add 2-4 drops of air motor oil and run the
tool for 10-20 seconds to distribute oil through the tool. For maximum performance and tool life, an air line lubricator, set to deliver 2 drops per minute, is
recommended. SIOUX No. 288 Air Motor Oil is recommended.
MAINTENANCE
Water, dust and other airline contaminants can cause rust and vane sticking. For long periods between tool use, flush the tool with a few drops of oil and run
for 10 seconds. This will help remove contaminants and reduce the formation of rust. Periodically check the speed and vibration of the grinder. If the speed
exceeds the nameplate speed, have grinder repaired. Verify all safety markings are legible. Inspect spindle threads, clamping devices and abrasive location
features for wear. If wear is present, replace components.
OPERATION
Brush Belts and Applications
Black Belt
Fig. 3 — 0.7 mm thickness knee style brush which has sharpened and hardened tips. Use this brush in scratching direction.
The surface receives a coarse sandblast effect.ro.
Application:
• Thick sealer removal
• Undercoat removal
• Asphaltic sheet removal
Green Belt
Fig. 4 — 0.5 mm thickness straight brush which has hardened tips. Use this brush bi-directionally. No sandblast effect.
Application:
• Thin sealer removal
• Rust removal
• Paint removal
Rubber Eraser
Fig. 6 — The rubber eraser wheel is available to remove stripes. Stickers, adhesive tapes and glue from metal surfaces. When
using. Never allow eraser to stand in one spot during use. This could result in surface damage due to excessive heat build up.
Resharpening of the Bristles
After using the abrasive belt for a certain period, the tips of the bristles get round and brushing effect is reduced. By
resharpening the bristles, the belt recovers its performance.
For Black belts:
Assemble the belt upside down to provide reverse spinning to the belt. Spin the belt on the grinding stone for 15 to
30 seconds applying slight pressure. See Fig. 5. Then assemble the belt in the right direction again.
For Green belt:
Just re-assemble the belt in same manner as removed.
