IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions
should always be followed, including the following:
• Read all Instructions.
• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
• To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plugs or appli-
ance in water or other liquid. Never touch cord with wet hands. Do not overfill water tank. Never
put the appliance or part of it into dishwasher.
• Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. The appliance is
not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or in-
struction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Keep appliance,
capsules and accessories out of the reach of children.
• Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Never touch the cable with wet hands.
Allow to cool before adding or removing off parts, and before cleaning the appliance. Never use
detergents to clean appliance. Do not use steam or pressure cleaners to clean the appliance. This
may damage the appliance to the point of creating a life-threatening hazard.
• The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in
fire, electric shock or injury to persons.
• Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or
has been damaged in any manner. Unplug cord immediately. Return appliance to the manufac-
turer's service Nespresso Club or similarly qualified persons for repair to avoid hazard.
• Do not use outdoors.
• Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces or sharp edges. Do not
allow cord to dangle (risk of tripping up).
• Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, in a heated oven, or on top of a radiator or a
stove. Always place on a stable and even surface. The surface should be resistant to heat and fluids,
such as water, coffee, descaler, or the like.
• Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into wall. To disconnect, turn any control to
"off", then remove plug from wall outlet. Do not unplug by pulling the cord.
• Do not use appliance for other than intended use. Appliance is for household use only (non-com-
mercial areas). Appliance is intended to prepare beverages according to these instructions. Use
only capsules provided by the Nespresso Club. The manufacturer assumes no liablity for damages
from use that is not in accordance with the instructions.
This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all
safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death.

Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUtion
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.

Is used to provide important information not related to personal injury.
• Do not lift lever during brewing cycles. Scalding may occur.
• This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric
shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully
into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrican. Do not attempt
to modify the plug in any way.
• Do not put fingers under coffee outlet, risk of burnt hands.
• Do not dismantle appliance and do not put anything into openings. Never put your hand inside
space for capsules.
• This machine operates with the Nespresso capsules only, available exclusively from the Nespresso
Club.
short cord instructions
a) A short power-supply cord or detachable power-supply cord is to be provided to reduce risks
resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
b) Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care
is exercised in their use.
c) If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used:
1) The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord
should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance;
2) The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table
top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
