CONNECTING THE PRINTER TO A HOST SYSTEM

Attach to a Data Source

Connect the cable.
Turn the data source and printer on.
Quick Reference Guide
Specific instructions for connection to a data source on the Model
3972 and Model 3974 can be found in the 3972 SCS Guide and
3974 IPDS Guide, respectively.
The printer is shipped with auto switching of interfaces selected.
A choice of serial or parallel interface is also available, see
Chapter 2 of the 3870 User's Manual.
CENTRONICS/IBM parallel and RS-232 serial printer cables are
available from any computer store. The cables must be rated FCC
Class B in order for the system to meet legal radio frequency
interference limits. The cables should have a braided shield to
provide best immunity from electrostatic discharge.
WARNING: Turn the printer and data source off to avoid
damage to the printer or data source.
Serial Interface Connector
Install the cable and tighten cable connector screws or, when
using the parallel interface, secure the cable to the printer with
the bail wires on the printer connector.
To be safe, do it in that order.
