Characteristics
An physiologically inoffensive fluid, green tint, clear liquid based on an aqueous solution of 1.2 Propylene glycol and other glycols with a high boiling
point, that is used as a heat transfer fluid in thermal solar systems, particularly those subjected to high heat loads. The product is mixed with deionised
water to guarantee protection against freezing to about -35ºC. Contains non-toxic corrosion inhibitors, free of nitrates, amines and phosphates. Complies
with requirements contained in Standard DIN 4757.

Properties
Anti-freeze protection is adjusted to -35ºC. Trials have demonstrated that under normal central European climate this formulation will not have a
damaging effect on metals. The anti-freeze action can of course be reduced by increasing the amount of water, according to the curves in the appendix.
It is premixed with deionised water to provide optimum protection against freezing and corrosion. If the product is diluted with water after cleaning
the circuit or inadvertently, additions of water up to 10% can be tolerated without affecting its anti-corrosion properties.
The effectiveness of the inhibitors is checked regularly using the ASTM D 1384 method (American Society for Testing and Materials). The following
table illustrates the relative low corrosion of metals normally used in this type of system compared to the uninhibited propylene glycol and tap water.
This product was developed due to the increasing use of panels with vacuum collectors, which reach high temperatures when stopped up to +260ºC.
Normal ethylene or propylene glycol based fluid tends to evaporate in this type of panel due to the low boiling point of such glycols. They leave partially
dissolved salt residues which can create problems for collector operation. It is mainly comprised of glycols with high boiling point, harmless, high-
molecular-weight glycols with a boiling point above +290ºC at 1013 mbar and thereby the aforementioned residues remain diluted.
In any event, operating temperatures over +170ºC should be avoided, as high temperatures can damage the product's chemical base, causing
decomposition and the deactivation of corrosion inhibitors.
