Setting Scan Timing

Scan speed is the amount of time it takes for your device to move from one button, row, or column to the
next in a scan. The default scan speed is one second. At this setting, it takes one second from the time one
key is highlighted until the next key is highlighted. To change the scan speed, choose Menu > Settings >
Scanning > Scan Speed. Choose the appropriate time.

Configuring Re-scans

Select the number of times you want your device to scan the page automatically. Once you reach the set
number of re-scans, the scan will stop until a switch is activated again. To set the number of re-scans,
choose Menu > Settings > Scanning > Number of Rescans. The Number of Rescans window opens.
Choose the appropriate number of rescans.

Turning on Auto Restart

This option allows you to restart a scan cycle automatically after an activation. To turn on auto restart,
choose Menu > Settings > Scanning > Auto Restart.

Setting Auditory Scan

This option enables audio feedback during scanning. To set auditory prompts, choose Menu > Settings >
Scanning > Auditory Scan. If you are scanning, simply activate your switch. To retrieve a message,
activate the switch again after you hear the prompt.
Audio Output Device
Choose Menu > Settings > Scanning > Use Headphone for Prompt. You can hear prompts through the
device's speaker. You can also plug stereo headphones into the headphone jack on the side of the
device. This allows you, but not others, to hear the prompts. If you are using headphones, turn On User
Headphone For Prompt.

Choosing a Voice

When choosing a voice to use for the auditory prompts, it can be helpful to choose a different voice
than the one the system uses for speaking messages. To change the voice, choose Menu > Settings >
Scanning > Prompt Voice. You can also adjust Prompt Voice Rate and Prompt Voice Pitch as needed.

Making an In-App Purchase

Saltillo provides additional voices, other language packages, unique vocabulary files, support packages,
and curriculum support in the Upgrade Store. Apple provides an option for these materials to be
purchased from within the TouchChat application.
To explore the Upgrade Store:
1. Enable a wireless connection.
2. Tap Vocab and tap Choose New Vocab.
3. Tap Menu and tap Upgrade Store.
4. Tap Enter Upgrade Store.
To make a purchase:
In the Upgrade Store, make a selection and enter your iTunes purchase information.
