Cable Requirements

All cables should be specified and installed to meet the
requirements of local laws (see the schematic diagram
for a typical system layout).
+
Fire alarm cables must be separated from all other
wiring (not related to the fire alarm system).

Cable Types

For specific details on the cable types, and how they
should be run, refer to local practices and regulation.
You should refer to these for details. For the addressa-
ble loops there is a wide range of cable types that can
be used.

Earthing

The addressable loop conductors must be isolated from
earth. Any current leakage to earth is indicated as a fault.

Screening

If a cable with a conductive screen or metal sheath is
used, this must not be connected to the addressable
loop conductors. The recommendation is to join the
screens from each section of cable within each loop de-
vice to form a continuous cable screen.

Cable Routing

Ensure cables are routed to minimise coupling effects.
Try to avoid grouping power and signal cables together
in the same conduit or trunking. Feed the mains supply
into the housing through its own dedicated knockout.

RS 485 Networking

Copper cabling should always be used for the network.
For a quick summary the maximum distance between
nodes is 1000 m using shielded twisted pair cable. Use
shielded cable only, with one end of the shield connec-
ted to the Control panel Negative terminal and the other
left free; the continuity, between several segments of
connection must be secured.

Mains Supply

The mains supply final circuit(s) to all parts of the fire
alarm system should be dedicated solely to the fire
alarm system, and should serve no other systems or
equipment. To facilitate local isolation during mainte-
nance, suitable means should be provided for double
pole isolation of the low voltage supply circuit that ser-
ves the power supply and control equipment.
The power circuits of this Control panel comply with the
EN54-4 standard.
!
In order to comply with the Safety regulations
in force, the Mains must be equipped with a bi-
polar isolating device for protection against
over voltage and short-circuit to Earth (e.g. au-
tomatic isolating switch).
This Control panel is powered from the Mains (230V/50 Hz).
The FC501-L control panel provide housing for a 1.5A
switching power supply.
The FC501-H control panel provide housing for a 2.5A
switching power supply.
The FC501-HK control panel provide housing for a
2.5A switching power supply.
