4.4. Direction Symbols

These symbols indicate the direction in which the piston moves upon
pressing the START button. The small UP ARROW on the display means
that the next function is aspiration. The small DOWN ARROW in turn
indicates dispensing. Both functions will be carried out in accordance
with the selected operating mode.

4.5. Nose cones and adapters

The XL is provided with three different pipette/tip nose cones/adapters.
The 25 ml nose cone/adapter allows the use of all standard plastic and
glass pipettes (graduated and non-graduated) including Pasteur pipettes.
The 5 and 10 ml nose cone/adapters are intended to be used with Biohit
Proline 5 and 10 ml tips, accordingly.
To change the nose cones, filters or
silicon adapters, first press the nose cone
lock release button (Fig. 6), rotate the nose
cone counter-clockwise and pull out the
nose cone and the silicon adapter. Insert
the adapter/nose cone of your choice and
twist the nose cone gently clockwise. The
silicon adapters enable the pipettes/tips to
fit securely in place, thus creating proper
vacuum levels and reducing leakage. Both
the nose cones and silicon adapters are
autoclavable (121°C, 1 atm).
Note: It is recommended to change the silicon adapter every six
months, or when neccessary, to prevent a loss of vacuum. Spare
adapters can be ordered from the local Biohit distributor.
