Microballoon, and glue the lamination anchor to the socket in accordance with the position of
the socket. Secure with adhesive tape for trial fitting.
4.2 When Finishing the Prosthesis
After trial fitting, additionally screw the lamination anchor to the socket with the truss head
screws (2a) and round nuts (2b) provided with the delivery, then laminate.
During lamination, reinforce the perlon stockinette lay-up in the area of the lamination anchor
with 616G12 Carbon Fiber Cloth. Make sure to evenly distribute the lamination resin.
When mounting the lamination anchor, tighten the set screws to a torque of 15 Nm
(11.1 ft./lb. or 133 in./lb.) using the 710D4 Torque Wrench.
5 Adjusting Swing Phase
The pneumatic swing phase control produces a smooth gait. Pneumatic resistance to motion
prevents excessive heel rise and provides a smooth extension stop. Foot weight and shin
length affect the pendulum force, influencing the gait.
Before making any changes to the functional position, keep the following in mind:
The valve screws are factory pre-set to their lowest resistance.
The extension assist should be adjusted so that the prosthetic lower leg reaches full
extension. Use a 4 mm Allen wrench to adjust the spring tension (fig. 4).
Turning clockwise = increased tension
Turning counterclockwise = reduced tension
During trial walking adjust the flexion resistance first. Start with approx. 2 clockwise turns of
the left valve screw (fig. 5). Then adjust extension resistance. Balance flexion and extension
resistances carefully.
Excessive heel rise = increase resistance = turn left screw clockwise
Insufficient heel rise = decrease resistance = turn left screw counterclockwise
Terminal impact in extension = increase resistance = turn right screw clockwise
Incomplete extension = reduce resistance = turn right screw counterclockwise
Attention
For patient safety, be sure full extension will always be achieved.
6 Cosmetic Foam Cover
Use 6R6 (3R6, 3S6 or 3S106) Cosmetic Foam Cover for 3R105=1 and 3R24, 3S24 or 3S124
Cosmetic Foam Cover for 3R106=1.
Attention
To eliminate noise in the cosmetic foam cover use 519L5 Silicone Spray. Never use
talcum powder! Talcum powder drains the grease of the mechanical components which
may cause malfunctions and increases the risk of the patient falling. If talcum is applied to
this medical product, all claims against Otto Bock HealthCare become void.
Apply 519L5 Silicone Spray directly onto the friction surfaces in the cosmetic foam cover.
7 Maintenance
Otto Bock recommends checking the knee joint after several weeks of wearing as well as
once a year at least and making required adjustments as necessary. Please pay particular
attention to flexion and extension resistances and to abnormal noise. It must be ensured that
full extension will always be achieved.
Do not disassemble the joint. In the case of any problems, please return the entire
joint to Otto Bock.
