5.

RS232 SERIAL LINK

5.1.

General description

The benchtop multimeter has an RS 232 type serial link used to:
# configure the multimeter
# read data measured by it
# adjust the multimeter without needing to disassemble the instrument.
Moreover, the instrument is delivered with a 3-1/2" program diskette containing drivers for
users of the DOS LabWindows and CVI LabWindows software (under Windows).
5.2.

Link caracteristics

The characteristics of the serial link are:
Transmission speed
number of data bits
number of stop bits
parity
protocol
For the connector configuration, refer to section 2.6.
Input and output impedances, protection characteristics and signal levels comply with the
EIA RS 232C standard.
5.3.

Starting up the serial link

5.3.1. When the lead installation is over

# After installing the lead, switch the computer on.
# Switch the multimeter on, while keeping the Pk+/- key pressed.
# The RS 232 sigla is displayed on the annunciator during 2 secs. (This deselects the
multimeter keyboard).
# The multimeter is now ready to receive the commands from the computer.

5.3.2. If there is any difficulty in start up

# Check the configuration of the computer serial link (speed, data bits, stop bits,
parity).
# Check that the 25-pin connector on the computer is compatible with the adapter.
