3. Setting up your night vision device

The following will help you get your night vision device ready for
use:
Insert the batteries
Your NVD 650 is designed to use alkaline, lithium or nickel-met-
al hydride (NiMH) AA batteries To insert the batteries, open the
battery compartment Insert 4 x 15 volt AA batteries into the
battery compartment as specified Pay attention to the correct pole
alignment (+/-)
Memory card
To save pictures or videos, you will need a memory card (micro SD/
SDHC card) Your NVD 650 supports memory cards up to 32GB
Insert the memory card
Open the memory card slot on the bottom of the device and insert
the memory card into the slot Make sure that the micro SD card
is not write protected (micro SD card slide must not be in the lock
position)

Note: If the micro SD card was used for data storage in other
devices, please format the micro SD card on a PC This format-
ting removes old data from the micro SD card and thus ensures
error-free functionality It is recommended to check the micro
SD card after capturing the first few images to ensure it is
working

4. Functions:

On/Off button (main switch)
You can turn the NVD 650 on or off by pressing the main switch
for 2 seconds
Zoom buttons
Pressing the zoom buttons allows you to zoom in and out digitally
in the image The values displayed here refer to the factor by which
the NVD 650's fixed optical magnification is multiplied For exam-
ple, a displayed value of 2 gives a magnification of 6 (NVD 650's
fixed optical magnification) times 3 (zoom factor) equals 18
IR illuminator
If the available light is no longer sufficient for observation, you can
switch on the built-in infrared illuminator by pressing the IR button
and obtain enhanced illumination of the activity When pressed for
the first time, the infrared illuminator lights up with full intensity If
the image appears too bright, the intensity can be gradually reduced
by further pressing the IR button until it is completely switched off
again IR0 will be displayed on the screen when the illuminator is
switched off completely Another press of the IR button puts the
NV 650 into day mode, whereby the IR illuminator is still off (further
details on day mode under the next function brightness button)
Battery life can be extended by turning the IR illuminator off or
down when full intensity is not required
Brightness button
The brightness button (sun symbol) allows you to adjust the bright-
ness of the image depending on the frame rate
You can browse through the frame rates available by repeatedly
pressing the brightness button in night mode Starting with the
fastest to the slowest frame rate set by default, which also allows
for the brightest image
In day mode (see above), the frame rate is 30 frames per second
(fps), which cannot be altered
Set-up menu
Pressing and holding the brightness button (2 seconds) will take you
to the small set-up menu Here you can set the photo resolution,
video resolution, date, backlight and USB standard
Once in the set-up menu, you can use the zoom buttons to enter
and exit a submenu Within a menu, you can scroll from one item to
another using the IR button The record button is for confirmation
The menu item Backlight Setting allows you to change the LCD
backlight of the screen over 3 levels This increases the adjustment
range for the image brightness, because for all 3 settings, the image
brightness can be changed as described above
Use the zoom buttons to scroll between levels and confirm with the
brightness button
Note: Lower frame rates in night mode allow for a brighter
picture However, movements in the picture may not appear as
smooth due to the slower frame rate per second
