11.0 Instructions for Use
Check patient at least every 8 hours or once per shift, to assure proper system inflation.
11.1 Initial Inflation/Patient Transfer In and Out of Bed
For initial inflation and patient transfer in and out of the mattress, adjust comfort dial to MAX.
This will maximally inflate the mattress to provide a firm support surface. Upon completion of
procedure, reduce the comfort setting (i.e. 9..8..7..etc.) to obtain proper inflation as per the
Hand Check.
11.2 Hand Check
For proper inflation and patient comfort, adjust comfort control dial to a middle setting (i.e. 5 or
6) to start and wait 10 minutes, then perform hand check. Detach the center mattress top cover
strap and lift the mattress cover to access the air cells. Using a veritical hand, insert hand
between the air cells directly underneath the patient's pelvic region (See Figure 1). Determine if
four fingers worth of clearance is present between the air cells directly underneath the patient's
pelvic region. If clearance of four fingers, exists, no adjustment is needed. If you can feel the
patient's body resting on your hand, increase the inflation level to the next highest setting, wait
10 minutes and perform the hand check again. Any time the comfort control dial is adjusted
between 1 and 9, wait 10 minutes and perform hand check.
11.3 Mattress Deflation
For mattress deflation, disconnect the hose connector from the Control Unit and allow to deflate.
12.0 CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)
To deflate mattress for CPR:
1. Disconnect the quick-connect coupling of the mattress hose from the Control Unit. Mattress will
deflate in 30 seconds.
2. Proceed with CPR procedures.
