6 Detection mode (calculus detection)
The detection function can also be switched off com-
1
pletely. Press the
key to deactivate this function.
To reactivate the detection function, just press the
1
key once again.
i
NOTE
The detection function must be deactivated whenever
the SIROPERIO 4 PS or SIROPERIO PE 8 tip is not in
use.
Detection on: The tooth lights up on the display. In this
case, the audible alarm is also switched on.
Detection off: The tooth does not appear on the display.
In this case, the audible alarm also does not appear.
Indication error:
If the signal ring displays neither blue nor green light, this
means that the distal end of the tip is not properly in con-
tact with the root surface or is located in soft tissue, and
that neither the detection nor the removal of calculus can
be performed for this reason. The tooth lights up white
on the display.
Flashing tip on the display:
Other causes of errors include e.g. a worn, broken,
loose, incorrect, missing instrument tip or not correct
plugged-in handpiece supply (see chapter 11).
You can read off the amount of wear from the check card
included in the scope of supply.
i
NOTE
Generally, the detection mode is supposed to be used
subgingivally. Substantiated studies have shown that in
this area, PerioScan yields a detection rate of 92 %**.
This means that a 8 % probability still exists that the soft-
ware will not clearly recognize whether the examined
tooth surface is calculus or root surface. The final decisi-
on regarding therapy is therefore up to the dentist.
Please observe the following display notes with other
material besides calculus and healthy root surface:
In general, you will note a green light at the signal ring
when the tip is in contact with enamel and supragingival
surfaces. If the tip is in contact with other materials, e. g.
crowns, inlays etc. there will normally also be a green
light at the handpiece. You will get an unreliable result
with root caries*, synthetic plastic materials.
No detection is possible if the tip gets stuck.
Please probe slowly, since the color change of the signal
ring has been limited to 10 Hz due to the average per-
son's capability to react.
