Maintenance and storage

- All maintenance work and repairs should only be
carried out with the drive switched off and the
scarifier in a stationary position. Secure the machine
so that it cannot roll away (wheel chocks) or be
accidentally switched on (remove the spark plug cap
from the engine).
- After the drive has been switched off the scarifier
shaft may continue to run due to the inertia of its
centrifugal masses. Wait until the shaft has come to
a complete standstill before starting any work on it.
- To avoid the risk of fire, keep the engine and – in
particular – the area around the fuel tank free of
grass, straw, moss, leaves or grease.
- To ensure safe operation, all nuts, screws and bolts
must be securely tightened.
- Regularly inspect the scarifier for worn and/or
damaged parts.
- Replacement parts must at least meet the technical
specifications specified by the manufacturer. To
ensure that this is the case, we recommend that you
use genuine replacement parts or third-party
products
that
have
manufacturer.
- When handling objects with sharp edges – e.g. the
tines – ensure that you protect yourself with
appropriate gloves and footwear etc.
- The V-belt must only be removed or fitted with the
drive switched off.
- Safety devices must be attached in accordance with
the regulations.
- Repair work such as welding, grinding, drilling etc.
must not be performed on safety relevant parts like
the scarifier shaft or the drive components. This type
of work must only be performed by a specialist
workshop which has been authorised or appointed
by the manufacturer.
- If the fuel tank needs to be drained then this should
only be done out in the open. The drained fuel
should be stored in a special container for fuels or
disposed of with special care.
- Never store the scarifier inside a building with fuel in
the tank if there is a risk that the fuel vapours could
come into contact with a naked flame or sparks.
- The motor must be allowed to cool down before the
scarifier is parked in a closed room
- Engine maintenance
- Maintenance must not be performed while the
engine is running.
- Always disconnect the spark plug cap before
carrying out any work on the engine.
- Check that the fuel and oil meet the required
specification and only use approved containers to
store them.
- Take care when draining hot oil – risk of
burning/scalding.

Assembly

It only takes a few moments to get your scarifier up
and running. The lower part of the handle is inserted in
the bracket on the scarifier housing (see Fig. 1). The
knurled screws are then tightened and the electric
cable and the Bowden cable are clipped into the
retainer (number "6" in the diagram).
Undo the tommy screw between the upper part of the
handle and the lower part. Raise or lower the upper
part of the handle into the desired working position.
Tighten the tommy screw.
Adjusting the working depth:
Turn the knob on the infinitely variable adjustment until
the required working depth is reached (refer to Fig. 8
for model 519 and Fig. 9 for model 519-50). The
transport setting is preset at the factory. Two
revolutions of the knob correspond to a difference in
height of the scarifier shaft of around 2.0 mm.
Adjust the working depth to suit the needs of your
lawn, but do not go any deeper than 2 – 3 mm.

grass is damp.

Starting the engine

Refer to the instructions provided by the engine
manufacturer in the separate operating manual for the
engine.
Check that there is enough fuel in the tank. Ensure
that the engine is filled with the right type of oil.
Open the fuel shutoff. Move the stop switch on the
engine to the "ON" position.
Pull the left-hand switch lever (emergency stop) on the
handle and hold it in that position – otherwise the
engine cannot start (see Fig. 14).
Slowly pull out the starter handle (see Fig. 15) until a
resistance is felt. This indicates that the correct
compression pressure has been reached. Then return
the starter handle to its starting position and pull it out
in a sudden, swift motion. In the process, do not pull
the cable all the way out. Once the engine has started,
allow the starter handle to slide back into its starting
position (keep hold of the starter handle while it
returns back).
Once the engine has been started, turn the choke
lever and gradually open it, until it is fully open (see
Fig. 13). If the engine is cold or the ambient
temperature is low, the engine might stall if the choke
lever is immediately opened right up. Allow the engine
to idle for a few minutes until it has warmed up.
