· Each pH electrode is subject to a natural ageing process. The expected service life is significantly increased by the option to
replace the reference electrolyte (item no. 80484).
· The pH-Elektrode is a double junction electrode. This electrode does not react as sensitively to environmental influences
as a standard electrode.
· If the electrode reacts with striking slowness during calibration, the electrode must be cleaned.
Important notes:
· Never operate the electrode completely immersed, not even for a short time. The cap must always remain above
the surface of the water! Ensure safe fastening of the electrode.
· Always keep the connection plug dry.
· For extremely precise measurements the calibrating process can be repeated several times.
· Do not use the calibrating solution more than once.
· If the electrode reacts with striking slowness during calibration, the electrode must be cleaned.
· If the electrode has been stored dry for a relatively long time, it must be thoroughly soaked for 24 hours in 3-molar KCL
solution before measurement.
· Reference electrodes with liquid electrolyte should always contain enough liquid. The liquid column inside the electrodes
should reach up a few centimetres higher than the surface of the measuring solution.
· From time to time the filling aperture of the electrode must be freed for the purpose of pressure balancing.
That also applies to the first use.
· Crystallising of the 3-molar potassium chloride solution on the pH electrode is a natural process and does not affect its
quality in any way. Before first use simply wash under running water.
· The electrode must never be used in combination with medication, algae killers or similar chemicals! The
electrode must be removed from the tank for the duration of treatment.
Safety instructions: Technical products may only be operated as supplied. Electronic components must not be altered in any
way, and leads must not be shortened. Covers or housings must not be opened. The product must not be used if damaged or
must be shut down immediately by pulling the mains plug if damage is detected.
Commissioning / Adjustment:
1. Connect the electrode to the appropriate instrumentation and control device.
2. Remove the protective cap from the electrode.
3. Briefly flush the electrode tip with Dupla Dest.
4. Hold the electrode in the calibration solution pH 7 and adjust the instrumentation and control device to
the zero point pH / in accordance with the adjusting instructions for your device.
5. Then flush the electrode tip again with Dupla Dest.
6. Now hold the electrode into the calibrating solution pH 4 and adjust the instrumentation and control device in accordance
with the adjustment instructions of your device to the steepness pH 4.
7. Rinse down the electrode briefly with Dupla Dest.
8. Now fasten the electrode with the supplied clamps and suckers at the place of use in the aquarium.
Warning:
9. The electrode may be dipped for a maximum of up to 1 cm below the vent aperture into the water.
10. The electrode is now ready for use.
Repeating of calibration: Within 14 days of initial use. Then every 6 weeks.
Cleaning: The diaphragm and the glass membrane react sensitively to dirt and algae deposits. A sluggish reaction of
the electrode is then the consequence. We recommend that the electrode be cleaned every 6 – 8 weeks.
1. Place the electrode in a beaker filled with Dupla Cleaning Solution (Article No. 80460) for about two hours.
2. After this treatment briefly rinse the electrode down with Dupla Dest.
3. Fill the protective cap with 3 molar KCL solution (item no. 80480) and then place it carefully on the electrode tip.
4. Leave the protective cap on the electrode for at least 4 hours.
5. Adjust the electrode to the measurement and control device.
6. The electrode is now ready for use again.
