APPLICATIONS
You may use this product for the purpose listed below:
 Dethatching your lawn
ADJUSTING DETHATCHER DEPTH
See Figures 7 - 8.
Dethacher depth is adjusted using the height adjustment
knobs located on the wheels.
 Allow motor to come to a complete stop, then disconnect
dethatcher from power supply.
 Pull out on height adjustment knob and rotate to desired
setting. For best results, it is recommended that you begin
at a lower setting and raise the setting as the tines begin
to wear.
• Setting I — Dethatcher depth is approximately 1 mm.
This setting should always be used when transporting
the dethatcher.
• Setting II — Dethatcher depth is approximately 1/8 in.
(3 mm).
• Setting III — Dethatcher depth is approximately 3/8 in.
(10 mm).
STARTING/STOPPING THE DETHATCHER
See Figure 9.
 Attach the outlet end of an extension cord to the plug on
the rear of the dethatcher.
NOTE: Use only an approved outdoor extension cord as
described previously in this manual.
 Make a loop in the extension cord. Pass the loop through
the hole at the bottom of the cord retainer and place it
around the hook.
NOTICE:
Always use cord retainer to properly attach extension
cord to dethatcher. Failure to use cord retainer may result
in damage to dethatcher and/or extension cord.
 Press and hold the start button. Pull the bail toward the
handle and release the start button to start the dethatcher.
 To stop the unit, release the bail.
OPERATION
DETHATCHING TIPS
See Figure 10.
NOTICE:
To lengthen the lifespan of the tines and prevent unnec-
essary motor overload on the dethatcher, mow the
work area to a height of approximately 2 in. prior to
dethatching.
 Make sure the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wires, and
other objects that could damage the dethatching tines or
motor. Such objects could be accidentally thrown by the
dethatcher in any direction and cause serious personal
injury to the operator and others.
 To reduce the likelihood of disconnecting the dethatcher
from the extension cord, be sure to use the cord retainer
provided.
 Do not allow the extension cord to wrap around trees,
shrubs, or other obstacles. When picking up the extension
cord, wind the cord in a series of equal loops to prevent
it from tangling.
DANGER:
If dethatcher cuts into or tangles on the extension cord,
DO NOT TOUCH THE TINES or other metal parts of the
dethatcher! IT CAN BECOME ELECTRICALLY LIVE AND
VERY DANGEROUS. Release the bail and handle of the
dethatcher in a safe manner. Disconnect the electrical
service to the damaged line or cord before attempting
to free the line or cord. Contact with the tines or other
conductive parts of the dethatcher, or with live electric
cords or lines, will result in death by electrocution or
serious injury.
 Operate the dethatcher in straight lines and only move
in a forward direction. Start from the point closest to the
outlet and travel back and forth across the lawn, moving
away from the outlet so the cord remains behind the
dethatcher.
 If thatch layer is thick, do not attempt to remove the entire
thatch layer in one pass.
 Do not dethatch when grass or soil are wet.
 Disconnect from power supply and clean the underside of
the dethatcher after each use to remove any accumulated
debris.
