ASHDOWN ENGINEERING - PRO DI
USER GUIDE
INTRODUCTION
The Ashdown pro Di is a self contained complete preamplifier designed expressly
for bass instruments , The main features include a ¼" instrument input with level
control a ¼" and 3.5mm sterio Aux input with a mix control, "Showtime " mute
footswitch , 5 band Equalisation,Footswitchable Overdrive with overdrive and level
controls ,Headphone amplifierand output level control.
The amplifier output is via 1/4" standard jack , whist the Di output is transformer
isolated and features a ground lift switch.
Setting the Level
The instrument signal is first routed through a Pad switch , this provides a 3dB
reductionin input sensitivity to allow the use of high output instruments. The input
level should be adjusted such that the fitted meter just dips slightly in to the red
when playing enthusisatically but remains in the black for the majority of the time.
This will ensure that the following sections of the preamplifier receive the correct
signal level to ensure the optimum signal to noise ratio.
The EQ
The 5 band EQ consists of shelving type fiters for the Bass (100Hz) and Treble (7kHz)
and 3 midrange medium Q filters centred at 340hz, 680hz and 1K6Hz repectively.
Care shoul be excersied to avoid extreme settings of the tone shaping and it will be
nescessary to re-adjust the input level to compensate accordingly.
There is also the provision of a Shape switch, when activated this produces a pre set
mid frequency depression whilst simutaneously boosting the bass and treble.
The Drive Section
The Controls consist of a Drive control which allows the user to adjust the amount
of distortion applied, from a slight edge to full blown overdrive. The second
control adjusts the output level and should be set set so that there is no net change
between the driven and clean volume levels.
