INTRODUCTION
All users must read these operating instruc-
tions carefully prior to the initial operation.
These instructions are intended to acquaint
the user with the lifting tackle and enable him
to use it to the full extent of its intended capa-
bilities. The operating instructions contain
important information on how to handle the
lifting tackle in a safe, correct and economic
way. Acting in accordance with these instruc-
tions helps to avoid dangers, reduce repair
cost and down time and to increase the relia-
bility and lifetime of the lifting tackle. This
operating instruction must always be availa-
ble for consultation in the area where the lift-
ing tackle is in operation. Apart from the oper-
ating instructions and the accident prevention
act valid for the respective country and area
where the lifting tackle is being used, also the
commonly accepted regulations for safe and
professional work must be adhered to.
CORRECT OPERATION
- The capacity indicated on the lifting tackle
is the maximum safe working load (W.L.L)
which must never be exceeded.
- Do not lift or transport loads while personnel
are in the danger zone.
- Do not allow personnel to pass under a
suspended load.
- A load must not be suspended or left
unattended for a long period of time.
- The operator may not move the load until
he in convinced that the load is correctly
suspended.
- During positioning of the clamp, the operator
must ensure that neither the clamp, slings
or load pose a danger to himself or other
personnel.
- The clamp may only be used at ambient
temperatures between -40°C and + 100°C.
For extreme temperatures exceeding this
range, please contact the manufacturer.
- The accident prevention act and safety
regulations valid in the country of operation
are to be strictly adhered to at all times.
- If defects are found, stop using immediately.
- The clamp is to be used for lifting and
transporting single sheets of metal and steel
plates, rotating up to 180°.
- The clamps are suitable for all metal loads
that can be fully entered into the mouth of
the clamp and have a surface hardness of
less than HRC 30.
- If longer sheets of metal or profiles are to be
transported, we recommend using two
clamps to prevent the load swinging.
The clamps can be used in combination
a spreader beam.
INCORRECT OPERATION
- - - - - Do not exceed the rated lifting capacity
(W.L.L.)
- - - - - Do not tamper with lifting tackle.
- - - - - It is forbidden to use the clamp for
transporting personnel.
- - - - - When transporting loads ensure that the load
does not swing or come into contact other
objects (see Fig. 1).
- - - - - Always transport the load slowly and
carefully.
- - - - - Only one sheet or metal plate may be
transported at one time (Fig. 2).
- It is forbidden to apply side-pull forces to the
clamp (Fig. 3).
- - - - - Always insert the load fully into the mouth of
the clamp (Fig. 4).
- - - - - Do not allow the clamp to fall from a great
height.
INSPECTION BEFORE INITIAL
OPERATION
A competent person must inspect each clamp
prior to its initial operation. The inspection is
visual and functional and shall establish that
the clamp is in a safe condition resp. that
any defects found can be corrected before
operation commences. A service engineer, a
representative of the manufacturer or the
supplier, can make the inspection although
the company can assign its own suitably
trained personnel.
INSPECTIONS BEFORE STARTING
WORK
- - - - - Ensure that the surface of the load, in the
location where the clamp is to be applied, is
free from grease, paint, contamination and
scale and is not coated, so that the teeth
resp. the protective lining on the moving jaw
can make good contact with the surface of
the load.
- - - - - Check the fixed jaw and the moving jaw for
wear and defects. Both jaws must have clean
profiles.
- Check the complete clamp for damage,
cracks or deformations.
- - - - - The clamp must move easily and freely.
- Check the spring which must present
a noticeable spring pressure force when
lifting eye is depressed.
USING THE CLAMP
Push the lifting tackle onto the load until the
load has fully entered the mouth of the clamp.
The clamp is held firmly in position by spring
pressure. This ensures that the clamp is
with
firmly attached to the load even before the
lifting operation is started. The load can now
be lifted and transported.
At the end of the transport operation the load
must be lowered until the clamp is completely
load free resp. the lifting eye can be moved
freely and the clamp can be removed from
the load.
For the correct load of the clamp see the load
diagram plate (see Fig. 5).
INSPECTIONS AND SERVICE
Inspections are to be made by a competent
person at least once annually unless adverse
working conditions dictate shorter periods. The
clamp is to be inspected for damage, wear,
corrosion or other irregularities and all safety
devices have to be checked for completeness
and effectiveness.
Repairs may only be carried out by specialist
workshops that use original TIGRIP spare
parts.
Inspections are instigated by the user.
