11. CAUTION! Powder clouds are explosive. Before transferring the powder,
remove all possible sources of ignition from the workplace.
12. Before curing the powder-coated workpiece, ensure you are wearing proper
PPE (including maks, gloves, and safety glasses).
13. Bring the oven to temperature (between 150°C and 260°C). Place the
workpiece on the oven grate, close the oven door, and run the ventilation
system. The standard powder coating curing time is 15 minutes; however,
consult the powder coating manufacturer's guidelines for the best results. The
curing time may vary with the workpiece dimensions.
14. CAUTION! Frequently inspect the progress of curing. The deposited powder
coating should melt into a smooth, glossy film on the entire surface of the
workpiece. Overcuring may result in wrinkling, roughness or orange-peeling of
the coating.
15. Once done curing, shut down the curing oven and crack the door ajar slightly
to let the workpiece cool down slowly.
16. CAUTION! Rapid cooldown may result in dulling of the powder coat finish.
COATING AND CURING TIPS AND HINTS
1. Use suitable powder coating formulas intended for electrostatic deposition.
2. Before changing to another powder coating, thoroughly clean the powder coat
bin. Mixing different powders may result in pitting/pinholes on the coated
workpiece.
3. Porous workpieces may require thorough pre-cleaning and preliminary coating
before EPC.
4. If the powder begins to accumulate in a spot, blow it off gently with
compressed air. Accumulation of powder can also be a result of excess
moisture in the compressed air. If it is the case, replace the condensate
separator (E).
5. If the workpiece area to be coated has a diameter too small for the installed
dispersing nozzle, adjust the operating pressure and/or replace the
condensate separator (E).
6. To remove orange peel from the coating, wet sand the affected surface with
400 grit paper, leave to dry, and recoat.
7. Cured powder coatings can be removed with automotive coating removers.
