3.3. Operating the appliance
First, clean the workpiece to be powder coated. Following this preprocessing, place
the workpiece near ventilation air and bond it to equalise the potential. If the
workpiece features grooves or indentation, position it so that the powder coating
will fill these features by gravity.
Before starting the EPC process, test it on another workpiece (like a piece of
scrap), adjusting the operating pressure.
CAUTION! Hold the EPC gun approximately 20 cm away from the workpiece
surface!
CAUTION! If the powder coat is deposited on an insufficient or too large
surface area of the workpiece, operate the EPC gun coverage screw (H) to adjust.
Tighten the coverage screw to reduce the coated area. Release the coverage
screw to increase the coated area. Retest to verify proper adjustment. If prior
adjustment provides insufficient results, replace the dispersing nozzle (to size 5,
6, or 9). It is recommended to start operating the appliance with the coverage
screw tightened all the way in and gradually released until satisfactory coating
results are obtained.
1. Plug the power cord of the appliance into a mains outlet.
2. Set the power switch (F) to I (20 kV) or II (50 kV), which is the voltage output
selection.
3. Run the air compressor and set the pressure regulating valve to within 0.7-2.1
bar. The compressed air pressure can be fine tuned with the pressure reducing
valve (C) while operating the product.
4. Start powder coating deposition by pressing the EPC gun trigger (G)
simultaneously with the foot switch (3).
5. Aim the EPC gun by varying the angle to ensure full coverage of the workpiece.
When done processing, the workpiece should be fully covered by a dull,
opaque layer of the powder coating.
6. End the operation by releasing the foot switch (3) and unplug the power cord
from the mains.
7. CAUTION! When done operating and with the power cord unplugged from the
mains, the EPC gun is still electrically charged. Apply the conductor pole (D) to
the bonding terminal (8) to discharge the EPC gun.
8. Wipe the dispersing nozzle with a clean cloth.
9. Disconnect the compressed air line from the adapted (B) on the condensate
separator (E) of the EPC gun (1).
10. Turn the EPC gun upside down, remove the powder coat bin (4) and move the
remaining uncontaminated powder into its original container.
