3 OPERATION AND MOVEMENT
Safety measures as described in Section 1 must be observed when operating the chair's functions or moving the
chair. Only authorized caregivers should attempt to operate or move a chair. The caregiver must use proper body
mechanics when operating the chair, and be prepared to support the weight of the resident while operating the chair.
Seat Tilt – Posterior and Anterior
3.1
A foot pump operated hydraulic cylinder allows the
seat to be easily tilted to any position from most
upright to the lowest within its range. The foot pump
helps to reduce lifting force. Use seat tilt to safely
position the resident, redistribute pressure and
increase comfort.
To Activate Posterior Seat Tilt
-Place foot under foot pump and lift upwards.
-Lower the seat tilt until the desired angle is achieved.
To Activate Anterior Seat Tilt
-Place foot on foot pump and pump downwards
-Pump repeatedly until the desired angle is achieved.
3.2
Back Recline
The Vanguard Tilt Recliner offers a semi recline feature.
A gas cylinder allows the back to be reclined to any
position from the most upright to the lowest within its
range. Use back recline to position resident, create
pressure redistribution, increase comfort, and assist with
daily care activities.
WARNING: Always tilt slightly before reclining to
prevent resident from sliding.
Do not remove spacers from the recline cylinder.
To Activate the Back Recline
-Place your left hand on the top bar to assist movement
and squeeze the recline handle with your right hand.
-Raise or recline the back until the desired angle is
achieved.
