Carburetor Idle Adjustment

ENGINE BREAK-IN

New engines must be operated a minimum duration of two tanks
of fuel break-in before carburetor adjustments can be made.
During the break-in period your engine performance will increase
and exhaust emissions will stabilize. Idle speed can be adjusted as
required.
NOTICE: Every unit is run at the factory and the carburetor is set in
compliance with emission regulations. Carburetor adjustments, other
than idle speed, must be performed by an authorized dealer.
□ Check idle speed and reset if necessary. If a tachometer is
available, idle speed screw (1) should be set to 3,400 RPM.

Troubleshooting

PROBLEM: ENGINE WILL NOT START
Possible Cause(s)
The Ignition Switch is in the "OFF" position.
The engine is flooded.
The Fuel Tank is empty.
The Spark Plug is not firing.
Fuel is not reaching the carburetor.
The Carburetor requires adjustment.
PROBLEM: ENGINE WILL NOT ACCELERATE, LACKS POWER OR STALLS
Possible Cause(s)
The choke is on.
The air filter is dirty.
The Spark Plug is fouled.
The Carburetor requires adjustment.
There is carbon build-up on the Muffler outlet screen.
The compression is low.
PROBLEM: ENGINE SMOKES EXCESSIVELY
Possible Cause(s)
The fuel mixture is incorrect.
The air filter is dirty.
The Carburetor requires adjustment.
PROBLEM: AUGER BIT JUMPS OR DRILLS SLOWLY
Possible Cause(s)
The Earth Blade or Fishtail Point is worn.
(1) clockwise to increase idle speed.
(1) counterclockwise to decrease idle speed.

Solution(s)
Move Ignition Switch to the ON position.
See Starting A Flooded Engine in OPERATION section. (Page 8, step 3)
Fill the tank with correct fuel mixture.
Replace the Spark Plug.
Check for kinked or split fuel line; repair or replace.

Move the Choke Lever to "Run/Warm Start" position to turn off choke.
Clean the air filter.
