Thermostatic Mixer Tap
As engine oil, which can reach a very high temperature, is used
to heat the tap water in the calorifier, it is recommended that
you fit a thermostatic mixer tap. This will save water and prevent
burns caused by boiling water.
Tap Water Piping
Use good quality reinforced hose, stainless steel or copper
pipes, for the tap water system.
Always connect pipes to the calorifier using short sections of
hose, this will absorb vibrations and prevent the pipes split-
ting.
Reinforced hose must be of a foodstuff quality and resistant to
temperatures of 100˚C (212˚F) and 8 bar (8 kgf/cm
pressure at least.
Insulate the pipes and the fittings to prevent unnecessary heat
loss.
Vetus can supply hose suitable for tap water. This hose has an
internal diameter of 16 mm, is odourless, resistant to tempera-
tures of 150˚C (302˚F) and has a working pressure of 10 bar
(10 kgf/cm

, 140 psi). Article Code: WHHOSE16.
Pipes from Engine to Boiler
The engine pipes between the ship's engine and the calorifier
should be kept as short as possible, so that extra oil capacity
is limited.
Fitting the assembly set supplied:
• Fit the screw-in connectors; the connectors for fitting to the
ship's engine already have a sealing ring. When fitting screw-
in connectors to the calorifier, use a good quality screw
thread sealant.
• Fit the engine oil hoses to the compression ring connectors
on the engine, ensure the engine can move freely without
stressing the hose.
• If hoses are too short to reach the calorifier, use copper pip-
ing as an extension.
Use copper pipes with an outside diameter of 15 mm, 12 or
13 mm inside diameter. To keep extra oil capacity down to a
maximum of 1 litre, the total length of copper piping may not
exceed 3 metres.
CAUTION
Always fit a hose to the engine, never connect the copper
pipe straight onto the engine.
• Install a stop cock in at least one of the two engine oil pipes.
By closing this, it will be possible to prevent water in the tank
from boiling, should engine oil temperature exceed 100˚C
(212˚F) for any length of time. See also 'Use'.
Calorifier WH40 & WH60
Heating Element
An electric heating element (1000 Watts maximum) may be
fitted in the calorifier. This heating element must have a thermo-
stat. The heating element must have a G 1 1/4 external screw
thread. Remove the plug from the calorifier, clean screw thread
if necessary, and fit the heating element. Use hemp with liquid
gasket compound to seal the screw thread joint. Connect the
element in accordance with the wiring diagram. Connect the
earth of both calorifier and heating element to the ship's earth-
ing point!

stat):
