Information about the prototype
"From the Past into the Future" was presented on July 8, 2021
as the freshly overhauled diesel locomotive, road number
218 497, at the Cottbus facility. The DB Locomotive/Car
Maintenance, Inc. (DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH) (FZI)
is listed as the owner and its future use is to be as a lease
locomotive. The FZI had road number 218 497-6 given a two-
part paint scheme, which symbolizes the history of the Cott-
bus facility from steam locomotive overhauling (black/red) to
ICE maintenance (ICE white with red stripes). In the future,
the DB-FZI will operate the latest and most environmentally
friendly railroad maintenance for Europe in Cottbus. By 2026,
a new ICE hall for maintenance and repair of the ICE 4 will
be built at the current location, a hall for the conversion of
diesel units to hybrid technology with electric propulsion as
well as a technology center for hybrid research and modern
training facilities will also be built.

« Du passé jusque dans le futur », ainsi se présentait le
8 juillet 2021 la locomotive diesel 218 497 fraîchement remise
en état dans l'atelier de Cottbus.
Cette machine appartient à l'entreprise responsable de la
maintenance du matériel roulant de la DB (FZI GmbH) et sa
future utilisation sera en tant que locomotive de location.
La FZI a fait doter la 218 497-6 d'une double livrée, censée
symboliser l'histoire de l'atelier de Cottbus, depuis la main-
tenance des locomotives à vapeur (noir-rouge) jusqu'à celle
des ICE (blanc ICE avec bandes rouges).
A Cottbus, la DB-FZI exploitera à l'avenir l'atelier de main-
tenance ferroviaire le plus moderne et le plus écologique
d'Europe.
D'ici 2026 apparaîtront sur le site actuel une nouvelle halle
ICE pour la maintenance et la réparation des ICE 4, une halle
pour la transformation d'engins diesel pour la technique
hybride avec moteur électrique, ainsi qu'un centre tech-
nologique pour la recherche en technologie hybride et des
ateliers de formation modernes.
