9 Maintenance
The boiler and installation must be regularly maintained to maintain the high efficiency of the appliance.
Depending on the operating conditions, the maintenance operation shall be done once or twice per year.
The boiler and supply inspections must be done in accordance with the current local provisions by a qualified
professional.
Before any work, switch off the main electrical power supply and close the fuel supply valve (gas and fuel oil).
The appliance contains components made of synthetic siliceous mineral fibres (ceramic and glass fibres,
insulating wools). For any work on these components, the operator must wear suitable clothing and a respiratory
protection mask to avoid any risk specific to these products.
9.1 Periodic inspections and maintenance work
Check the manometer, with the circulating pump switched off. If it indicates a low water level or pressure, fill the
heating system with water
Check that the expansion tanks are working correctly
Inspect the safety valves and fans in the heating and hot water system
Perform burner maintenance in accordance with the special recommendations described in the burner datasheet
Check the fuel oil level
Clean the boiler and the chimney
Check the correct operation of the internal siphon (condensate removal, water trap)
The connection between the boiler flue and the exhaust gas extraction installation must be sealed against
exhaust gases and condensates
9.2 Cleaning the boiler
Boiler cleaning must be done by a qualified technician.
The Varjet boiler construction type makes cleaning operations remarkable easy (cylindrical heater unit and
condenser with large inspection hatch).
However we advise you to use suitable chemical products to clean the heating surfaces of boilers used with fuel
oil. Your operator, as a technician, will be able to advise you.
Heater unit maintenance:
Turn off the burner
Take the burner plug out of its socket
Loosen the boiler door screw and pivot it with the whole burner until it stops
Remove the turbulators
Clean the combustion chamber and the smoke tubes
Remove the side cleaning hatch (two inspection hatches are placed on either side of the casing for cleaning the
smokebox)
Refit the clean turbulators following the instructions in Chapter 6.7 of the present manual
Close the smoke box cleaning hatches and close the combustion chamber door
Restart the burner
Condenser maintenance:
Remove the condenser inspection hatch placed behind the boiler (to access the inspection hatch, remove the
two rear casing panels)
Clean the tube bundles, cleaning must be done with a high pressure water jet or by brushing the stainless steel
tubes (brushing done with a stainless steel or plastic brush)
Remove the cleaning residues by removing the flue or by using a vacuum cleaner
Check the condition of the inspection hatch gasket, change it if necessary
Refit the inspection hatch
Inspect and clean the siphon
Fill the siphon before starting the boiler, check that the condensates drain correctly
9.3 Burner maintenance
Regular burner maintenance (cell, spray nozzle, combustion head, electrode, pump filter) must be done by a
specialist in accordance with directives in the burner technical notice.
After replacement, a burner operation check must be done to ensure that the settings have not been modified
and that they correspond to the desired boiler power.
