• Store the tool indoors in a dry and locked-up place, out
of reach of children
BEFORE USE
• Check that all screws, nuts, bolts and other fasteners are
properly secured and that guards and screens are in
place
• Ensure that the feed intake is empty
DURING USE
• Keep your face and body away from the feed intake
opening
• Do not allow hands (or any other part of the body) or
clothing inside the feed intake opening, outlet opening or
near any moving part
• Keep proper balance and footing at all times; do not
overreach
• Never stand at a higher level than the base of the tool
when feeding material
• Always keep proper distance from the outlet zone when
operating the tool
• When feeding material into the tool be extremely careful
that pieces of metal, rocks, bottles, cans or other foreign
objects are not included
• If the cutting mechanism strikes any foreign object or if
the tool should start making any unusual noise or
vibration, immediately switch off, allow the cutting blade
to stop, disconnect the plug and take the following steps
- inspect for damage
- replace or repair any damaged parts
- check for and tighten any loose parts
• Do not allow processed material to build up in the outlet
zone; this may prevent proper discharge which can result
in kickback of material through the feed intake opening
• If the tool becomes clogged, switch off, allow the cutting
blade to stop and disconnect the plug before clearing
debris
• Keep the motor cooling vents clean of debris and other
accumulations to prevent damage to the motor or
possible fire
• Do not tilt or transport the tool while the motor is running
WHEN CONNECTING NEW 3-PIN PLUG (U.K. ONLY):
• Do not connect the blue (= neutral) or brown (= live) wire
in the cord of this tool to the earth terminal of the plug
• If for any reason the old plug is cut off the cord of this tool,
it must be disposed of safely and not left unattended
USE
• Assembly instructions $
- mount wheels with the two wrenches A supplied and
assemble tool as illustrated
- position collection bag B underneath outlet C
- mount prodder holder D
• On/off %
- switch on/off the tool by pushing switch E in "I"/"O"
position
! after switching off the tool the blade continues to
rotate for a few seconds
- allow the cutting blade to stop rotating before
switching on again
! the tool will not start unless securing knob F is
fully tightened
! do not rapidly switch on and off
• Restart protection
- after a power supply failure the tool will not restart on
its own
- use switch E % for restarting the tool
• Overload protection
Overloading (e.g. blocking up the cutting blade) can lead
to a standstill of the tool
- wait a short period before switching on the tool again
- restart tool by first pushing button G % and then
switch E %
• Shredding ^
- feed the material to be chopped through feed intake
opening H
- only insert as much material so that the feed intake will
not be blocked up
! longer material could lash out when being cut
! small pieces of shredded material may be ejected
from the feed intake opening
! wear safety glasses, hearing protection and
protective gloves when using the tool
- do not fill soft waste such as kitchen rubbish into the
shredder
- ensure that the chopped material can fall freely from
outlet C
- ensure that ventilation slots J 2 will not be covered by
the collection bag or the chopped material
- avoid blocking outlet C with shredded material as this
could result in kickback of material through feed intake
opening H
• Removing blockage &
! switch off the tool and disconnect the plug
- loosen securing knob F and open the tool as illustrated
- clean the blade area (remove compacted debris with a
woorden or plastic implement)
- also clean outlet C of any debris
- close the tool and tighten securing knob F firmly
• Reversing/changing cutting blade *
! switch off the tool and disconnect the plug
- the cutting blade has a cutting edge on both sides; so
if one side has become blunt, the other side can be
used
- replace the cutting blade when both sides are blunt
(SKIL spare part number 2610Z02553, marked YAT

- loosen securing knob F and open the tool as illustrated
- loosen both blade bolts with hex key L while using
metal plate M as support
- reverse and mount the cutting blade as illustrated
- tighten both blade bolts with hex key L while using
metal plate M as support
- close the tool and tighten securing knob F firmly

• For best results shred fresh branches soon after they
have been cut
• Use prodder K for feeding soft material (
• Shred soft garden waste in smaller loads, particularly
when wet
• Blockages can be avoid by intermittently shredding
branches
