Weighted effective value of acceleration
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration has been measured
against standard test procedures and can be used by way of comparison with
another device. The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can also
be used as a preliminary evaluation of the exposure.
Attention: The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can differ
during operation from the indicated value, dependent on the manner in which
the device is used. Dependent upon the actual conditions of use (periodic duty)
it may be necessary to establish safety precautions for the protection of the
operator.

2. Preparations for use

2.1. Electrical connection
WARNING
Caution: Mains voltage present! Before connecting the REMS Contact 2000,
check whether the voltage given on the rating plate corresponds to the mains
voltage. Only connect the electric soldering device of protection class I to a
socket/extension lead with a functioning protective contact. On building sites,
in a wet environment, indoors and outdoors or under similar installation condi-
tions, only operate the electric soldering device on the mains with a fault current
protection switch (RCD) which interrupts the power supply as soon as the
leakage current to earth exceeds 30 mA for 200 ms.
2.2. Selecting the electrodes
As a rule, the prisma electrodes (1), are used, since they have a larger area of
contact with the pipe and hence heat up the latter faster than the rod electrodes
(2). The rod electrodes are intended for cramped spots where operation with
the prisma electrodes is not possible.
NOTICE
Check the cylinder head screw (7) regularly for tight fi t and tighten if necessary.

3. Operation
3.1. Mode of operation
When applying the electrodes of the soldering device to a metal conductor, e.g.
A copper pipe, a circuit with low voltage and high current is closed by pressing
the safety switch (3). The electrodes have a relatively high resistance in the
transformer/cable/electrodes/work piece circuit, and therefore heat up. They
may become red hot with larger pipe sizes. The resultant heat is transmitted
to the workpiece by heat conduction, and the workpiece is heated to soldering
tempera ture in a matter of seconds.
3.2. Operating sequence
Prepare the soldering joint properly (see also 3.3). Attach the tongs (4) with the
prisma electrodes (1) or – in narrow spots – with the rod electrodes (2) to the
workpiece. Press the safety switch (3). Keep the safety switch (3) pressed
during the soldering process. The soldering temperature is reached after a few
seconds. Add solder until the solder gap is fi lled. Release the safety switch (3),
detach the tongs from the workpiece. If the workpiece is not fi xed exactly, the
workpiece can be held in the tongs with the safety switch (3) open until the
solder has solidifi ed.
3.3. Soldering material
Use REMS Lot Cu 3 for soft-soldering. Copper pipes and fi ttings must have a
bright metal surface. To prepare the soldering joint, spread REMS Paste Cu 3
over the pipe. This paste contains soldering pow der and fl ux. The advantage
of the paste is that its change in colour indicates that the temperature needed
for soldering has been reached, and that a better fi lling of the soldering gap is
achieved. In any event, however, REMS Lot Cu 3 must be added too. REMS
Lot Cu 3 and Paste REMS Cu 3 have been designed specially for drinking
water pipes, and they comply both with German regulations as set forth in
DVGW work sheets GW2 and GW7, and with DIN standards. REMS Paste Cu

3 has been tested and approved by DVGW (DVGW-Reg.-Nr. DV-0101AT2244).

4. Servicing

Notwithstanding the maintenance described below, it is recommended to send
in the REMS Contact 2000 to an authorised REMS contract customer service
workshop for inspection and periodic testing of electrical devices at least once
IP 34
a year. In Germany, such periodic testing of electrical devices should be
performed in accordance with DIN VDE 0701-0702 and also prescribed for
mobile electrical equipment according to the accident prevention rules DGUV,
regulation 3 "Electrical Systems and Equipment". In addition, the respective
national safety provisions, rules and regulations valid for the application site
must be considered and observed.
4.1. Maintenance

Pull out the mains plug before maintenance work!
Clean the REMS Contact 2000 regularly especially when it has not been in use
for a long time. Keep the electrodes free from solder and fl ux. These impair the
heat transfer. Check the correct fi t of the cylinder screws (7) regularly and
tighten if necessary. Check the electrodes (1, 2) and holder (6) for damages
and carbonisation from time to time. Replace the electrodes if necessary. To
replace the prism electrodes, loosen the two screws (5), remove the worn
electrodes, clean the contact faces of the holder with a wire brush, insert new
prism electrodes and re-tighten the screws. Replace deformed or burnt holders.
Clean plastic parts (e.g. housing) only with REMS CleanM machine cleaner
(Art. No. 140119) or a mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not use household
cleaners. These often contain chemicals which can damage the plastic parts.
Never use petrol, turpentine, thinner or similar products for cleaning.
Make sure that fl uids can never get onto or inside the REMS Contact 2000.
Never immerse REMS Contact 2000 in liquid.
4.2. lnspection/servicing
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance and repair work! This work
may only be performed by qualifi ed personnel.
