FireWare Gas Cylinder
The Gas Cylinder can be used with either propane or butane. We recommend using propane, as bu-
tane may still be liquid with temperatures around the freezing point, which is when it may not be used
as fuel for the Gas Cylinder.
Gas cylinders with contents of more than 10 kg should be used for the most realistic flame effect.
With low temperatures we would recommend connecting two parallel gas cylinders in order to
guarantee sufficient gas. A series coupling is available for this purpose (049-092-008).
Please note: always check the practice extinguisher, the gas cylinder and the gas hose for any signs of
damage before use. Never use damaged parts.
1.
Position the practice extinguisher outside on a flat, hard surface, without any flammable
objects nearby (dead grass, leaves, trees, shelters).
2.
Connect the Gas Cylinder (1) to the gas cylinder (6) using the gas hose with the squeeze
handle (4). The shortcut should be used for connection to the Gas Cylinder (2) and the
threaded side should be secured to the gas cylinder's gas valve (7).
Please note: a date is printed on the gas hose. This date is the maximum use by date; the hose
must be replaced before this date is reached.
3.
If you are using the Gas Cylinder as an add-on for your FireWare Vesta, link the hose
without the squeeze handle to the Gas Cylinder (9) using the shortcut and the threaded
size to the Vesta (14).
Please note: read the relevant manual before using in combination with the FireWare Vesta. No
4.
Check to make sure the gas cylinder is at least 4 meters away and on the side where the
wind comes from.
5.
Close the Gas Cylinder's gas valve (3) and open up the real gas cylinder (7).
6.
Ignite the ignition burner and turn the practice extinguisher's gas valve on by half a turn.
7.
Switch on the Gas Cylinder when the gas valve (3) has been opened.
8.
Extinguish the ignition burner.
Please note: immediately close the gas valve if the Gas Cylinder does not ignite and contact
FireWare.
9.
The student can extinguish the Gas Cylinder by cooling down the cylinder with a water
jet and closing the gas valve. The instructor will extinguish the flames by completely closing
the gas valve on the real gas cylinder. Make sure the flame doesn't burn for more than 3
consecutive minutes.
Please note: wear heat resistant gloves for closing the Gas Cylinder valve and allow the practice
extinguisher to cool down for at least 20 minutes before moving it or returning it to the crate.
5.
Switching off
The flames will be extinguished by stopping the gas supply. This is done by closing the gas valve on
the real gas cylinder.
Always allow the fire extinguisher trainer to cool down for at least 20 minutes before you relocate it or
place it back in its crate.
The gas hose can be disconnected and the equipment stored away once the Gas Cylinder has cooled
off sufficiently.
