Protective function of the cutting safety

WARNING! Risk of bleeding by cutting incompletely coagulated
or uncoagulated tissue.
When working without the cutting safety locked, there is the risk
of the hand trigger being pulled out of the lock-in position. With
the hand trigger in this position, the VIO cannot start coagulation
or the VIO interrupts an ongoing coagulation prematurely. There
is also the risk that the cutting blade in the jaws can travel so far
forward that it separates incompletely coagulated or uncoagu-
lated tissue.
The cutting safety prevents the hand trigger from being pulled
beyond the lock-in position.
In general, Erbe recommends that inexperienced users work with
the cutting safety locked when holding and coagulating tissue.
If you are an experienced user and want to work without the cut-
ting safety locked:
• Practice working without the cutting safety locked in a "dry
run" in advance.
• When holding tissue, carefully close the hand trigger to the
lock-in position.
• Before coagulation, relax the hand in which you are holding
the instrument and keep this hand relaxed during coagulation.
• Pull the hand trigger beyond the lock-in position only after
coagulation is complete (indicated by 2 short tones).
