The VDM100 Auto-zero feature automatically removes any possible
accumulated zero offset. With this feature turned on, there is no need to
perform a manual zeroing procedure. The Auto-zero feature can be turned
on using the Graphical User lnterface (GUl) (see Section 4.0). When
activated, the VDM100 Auto-zero feature functions in the following manner:
1. The First Auto-zero: When the Auto-zero feature is activated, the
VDM100 performs its first auto-zero when the following conditions have
been met:
a. The VDM100 must be in the "Ready-to-Use" condition in Normal mode
for at least one minute.
b. There must not be any alarm or fault conditions.
c. There has been no set point asserted (<1.5% of full scale) for at least
90 seconds.
2. Subsequent Auto-zeroes: lf after the first auto-zero there is no set
point asserted (<1.5% of Full Scale), then an auto-zero will execute every 3
hours unless a set point is asserted. When a set point is asserted, the auto-
zero function will perform a zero after the following conditions have been met:
a. There has been no set point asserted (<1.5% of Full Scale) for at least
90 seconds
b. The VDM100 remains in Normal mode and in the "Ready-to-Use" condition
c. There are no alarm or fault conditions
The Drain mode is for emptying the VDM100 water tank. lt is recommended
to do this when there will be extended periods of downtime for the VDM100.
To drain the VDM100, follow these instructions:
1. Switch the source to the Dl water inlet from Dl water to nitrogen. Make
certain that the nitrogen supply is pressurized to between 10-40 psig.
2. Connect a 1/8" drain tube to the Tank Drain connector. The lnstant Tube
fitting is compatible with 1/8" O.D. tubing. A piece of Teflon tubing is
supplied with the VDM100 to aid in routing the water to be drained to a
suitable collection vessel.
3. Make certain that the drain has been routed to a suitable collection vessel.
NOTE: The water to be drained is de-ionized water that could be at a
temperature nearly as high as 100°C. Take the necessary precautions and
wear appropriate personal protective equipment to avoid being burned by the
hot water and/or steam from the heated water.
