INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Summary
The Rocket XS it's a progression ice screw; having a tube of only 9 cm has an extraction resistance of less
than the 10kN required for the certification (EN 568) and for this reason can't be considered a PPE
For this reason use the rocket XS only in exceptional situations were the ice is very thin, were it is not possible to
correctly use the Rocket or Rocket Plus and then use utmost attention to not load excessively the ice screw.
Placing and use:
When placing ice screws, assure yourself to choose an area where the ice is compact, uniform and as thick as
possible. Avoid areas where the ice is soft, aerated or fractured since the ice conditions determines the holding
strength of the anchor. Clean the surface of ice before placement if necessary, choose the length suitable for the ice
thickness and follow the instruction as given in picture 1, paying close attention to the warnings shown in picture 2.
Be cautious of the force required while screwing in the anchor: it shall be uniform throughout all the length of the
tool. A decrease of the force can indicate an air pocket in the ice which requires the ice screw to be removed and
placed in a better position.
To unscrew, use the handle as in picture3, taking care of quickly removing the ice.
Sharpening: for top performance, the teeth shall be well sharpened. Use a file to sharp the teeth according to
picture.4
Do not use a grinding wheel, which can generates temperatures high enough to change the mechanical
characteristics of the metal.
REVISION
The safety of users depends upon the continued efficiency and durability of the equipment. In addition to the normal
inspection required before, during and after each use, this product must be inspected by a skilled person every 12
months, starting from date the product is first used; this date and the subsequent checks must be recorded on the
product's life sheet: keep this literature for inspection and reference for the life of the device. Check the legibility of
the product's markings.
Before each use check the sharpening of the teeth, the threads, the free rotation of the ring connecting the sling
(Rocket Plus) and that the lever performs correctly.
If the ice screw presents any of the following defect the product should be withdrawn from service immediately:
• broken or bent teeth
• deep corrosion that seriously alters the surface state of the metal (which does not disappear after a light rubbing
with
sand paper)
• Presence of cracking
• Permanent deformation of the tube or of other components
• locking of the connecting ring
• Burning or abrasion signs on the stitching or on the sling.
Any product or component showing any defect or wear, or if in doubt, should be withdrawn from service immediately.
Each product in the safety system can be damaged during a fall and must be always inspected before use it again.
Do not continue to use a product after a major fall because a damage may have occurred, even no external signs
are visible.
