Installation & Mounting:
Remove the power supply and examine the unit for transit
damage, and locate all parts. If damage is found, or parts are
missing, contact the transit company or ECCO. Do not use
damaged or broken parts. The box contains:
1.
Power Supply
2.
Power and Control Harness
3.
Mounting Kit
4.
Blank Plug (3-position)
Wiring Instructions:
Notes:
1.
Larger wires and tight connections will provide longer service life for components. For high current wires it is highly recommended
that terminal blocks or soldered connections be used with shrink tubing to protect the connections. Do not use insulation displace-
ment connectors (e.g., 3M Scotchlock type connectors).
2.
Route wiring using grommets and sealant when passing through compartment walls. Minimize the number of splices to reduce
voltage drop. High ambient temperatures (e.g., under-hood) will significantly reduce the current carrying capacity of wires, fuses, and
circuit breakers. All wiring should conform to the minimum wire size and other recommendations of the manufacturer and be
protected from moving parts and hot surfaces. Looms, grommets, cable ties, and similar installation hardware should be used to
anchor and protect all wiring.
3.
Fuses or circuit breakers should be located as close to the power takeoff points as possible and properly sized to protect the wiring
and devices.
4.
Particular attention should be paid to the location and method of making electrical connections and splices to protect these points
from corrosion and loss of conductivity.
5.
Ground termination should only be made to substantial chassis components, preferably directly to the vehicle battery.
6.
Circuit breakers are very sensitive to high temperatures and will "false trip" when mounted in hot environments or operated close to
their capacity.
Important:
If only 3 strobe heads are used, install the blank
plug into the unused outlet. This plug is shipped with the unit.
Important:
Disable power before wiring the power supply.
The power connector for the unit has 4-positions. Connect
the Red wire to positive voltage through a 10A fuse and an
On/Off switch, as shown in Figure 1. Connect the Black wire
to ground. The Green wire selects High or Medium intensity.
Connect this wire to ground to have Medium intensity; attach
a wire nut on the end of the wire to have High intensity (i.e.
no connection). The Orange wire selects Dual or Quad flash
mode. Connect this wire to ground to have Quad mode; attach
a wire nut on the end of the wire to have Dual mode.
Alternatively, it is possible to have switchable flash modes
and intensity selection by wiring the Green and Orange wires
through a cab-mounted switch. The same connections
apply—grounding the Green wire provides Medium intensity;
grounding the Orange wire provides Quad mode.

CAUTION:
When drilling into any vehicle surface, make sure that the area is free
from any electrical wires, fuel lines, vehicle upholstery, etc. that could
be damaged.
Permanent Mounting:
1.
Select a flat surface for mounting the power supply.
2.
Mark the four mounting hole locations.
3.
Drill the holes with a 0.118" drill bit.
4.
Attach the unit using the mounting kit provided.
The Remote Strobe Head connectors have 3-positions, and are
designed to accept ECCO's remote cables. These cables come in
15', 35', and 50' lengths, and there are shielded versions available.
For installation, route the cables from the Remote Heads to the
Power Supply and attach the loose connector end to the wires as
shown in Figure 2. Apply dielectric grease such as Dow Corn-
ing 4 to each socket in the Power Supply, and plug in each con-
nector. If you are using the shielded cables, attach the wire with a
ring terminal on it to the vehicle chassis or ground with a screw.
Troubleshooting:
Warning:
The power supply outputs are hazard-
ous. To avoid the risk of electrical shock, turn the unit off
and wait 2 minutes before plugging or unplugging the strobe
output cables.
1. No heads flash
Check for a blown fuse.
Check that the proper voltage gets to the Red power wire.
Check that the flashtubes are seated properly. Try replacing
them first!
If these are ok, then do the following:
Disconnect all heads at the power supply.
Plug heads in one at a time.
If none work, replace the power supply.
If one or more work, plug one that didn't work into a connec-
tion that does work. If it now works, then replace the power
supply. Otherwise, replace the cable/head. (If you can plug
a new head into the defective head, then you can determine if
it's the cable or the head.)
2. One or more heads do not flash.
Check that the flashtube is seated properly. Try replacing
them first!
If these are ok, then do the following:
At the power supply, plug one that didn't work into a connec-
tion that does work. If it now works, then replace the power
supply. Otherwise, replace the cable/head. (If you can plug
a new head into the defective head, then you can determine if
it's the cable or the head.)
