HELPFUL HINTS: On large diameter pipe, it may be desireable to
alternate two workers pulling on the handle. Failure to maintain
maximum preassure only results in wasted time. While cast and
ductile iron pipe will fracture along the cut line after penetrating part
way, continue feeding the wheels in to make sure the cut is com-
pleted. Ductile iron tends to work harden. Continuous feeding and
maximum preasure helps prevent this. If some ductile iron needs to
be cut all the way through, consider using cutter wheels for steel, as
they will cut much faster. The steel cutter wheels will not last as long
as cutter wheels for ductile, and may be only effective on less hard
ductile.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR RC30 and RC36™ Cutters
Tighten feed screw.
Saddle held in
place by chain.
Saddle holds
ratchet handle.
RC30S in use.
1. Place red triangular saddle approximately 4" (100 mm) away
from the place the pipe is to be cut. (Make sure saddle is
placed on side of pipe that is to remain.) Secure saddle using
the provided chain.
NOTE: The saddle connects the ratcheting mechanism to the
cutter. The saddle allows the ratcheting mechanism to work first by
cutter connection, then by holding handle and ratcheting mecha-
nism securely in one place with the help of the Torque Arm.
2. Place Torque Arm on triangular saddle. Make sure pipe is
resting on the ground, then fully tighten the black bolt and nut
with the provided wrench assembly.
3. Place upper yoke of the cutter (cutter half with guides) on the
pipe with wheels over desired cutting line. Grooves in outer
lugs on upper yoke must face away from triangular saddle
handle.
4. Attach lower yoke to upper yoke one side at a time by sliding the
screws into the slots and seating the nuts in the cradle. Tighten
so the cutter wheels touch the pipe.
5. Connect ratchet handle to the triangular saddle by inserting
the ground steel pin on the end of the handle into the hole in
the saddle. (Make sure the other steel pin on the handle is
located across the cutter assembly.) Secure the handle with
the washer and cotter pin provided.
CAUTION:Always wear
proper eye protection
when using this or any
hand tool.
6. Connect red latch (used to hook around lugs) to ratchet handle
pin. Secure the latch with the other washer and cotter pin
provided.
7. Latch handle should have latch to its left and triangular saddle
to its right.
8. Lift handle until latch catches a grooved knob, then pull down.
9. After each half rotation, tighten black nuts with provided socket
handle. Tighten the nut as tight as possible each time.
NOTE: The Handle pulls the cutter around the pipe
but doesn't tighten the cutter to the pipe. This must be
done by hand with the provided Wrench Assembly.
