7. BINDING A HARD COVER BOOK
Before you begin, ensure that
• Τhere is glue in the applicator reservoir (Fastbind Hot-Melt Type 1)
• Τhe machine has reached operating temperature (warm-up time is 20 min)
• Τhat you are using a hard cover nipping plate (marked with "H")
• Τhe turntable is in normal position (the hand lever in the N-position)
• Τhe correct paper guide is in place (H-model)
CLAMPING
1. Fold the hardcover in your hands to pre-form 'folding lines' down the spine against the
spine board.
2. Open the clamp and insert the cover between the clamp and table. Secure the hardcover
behind the sprung outer collar of the paper guide. Pull out the outer collar of the guide and
slide the cover edge under its rim. The spring force of this collar will hold the hardcover in
place.

3. Add tacky lining sheets as the fi rst and last page of the paper block with the silicone release
paper outwards. Jog the complete block and align them against the paper guide.
4. Close and lock the clamp. Pre-nip the spine.
5. Turn the table over (UP) and fold the cover back.
HOT MELT APPLICATION
6. Run the adhesive applicator along the block spine by using the four step method.
COVER FOLDING AND NIPPING
Immediately after the hot melt application:
7. Tip the turntable back into the starting position and push the hand lever down fi rmly for 5
- 7 seconds to nip the spine. Open the clamp and turn the book over. Nip the spine again
from the other side with a single short pressing action.
8. Remove the book by lifting the turntable slightly with the clamp handle.
9. Gently open the cover and remove the silicon lining paper from the back of the cover lining
sheet. Close the book and rub gently over the whole of the cover area. This action stick the
lining sheet to the inside of the hard cover. Turn the book over and repeat the same proce-
dure for the other cover.
