PRIMER POCKET UNIFORMING
A small and large rifl e Primer Pocket Uniformer is included. These can be installed in any of the six rotating stations but
RCBS recommends installing in stations 2, 3, 5 or 6. The Primer Pocket Uniformer is used to "standardize" the primer pocket
to a preset depth. This ensures that primers will be seated to the same depth, with the legs of the anvil fi rmly anchored, to
provide reliable primer ignition. The small uniformer can be used for pistol or rifl e cases. The large rifl e uniformer should
ONLY be used on large rifl e cases. Large pistol cases have shallower primer pocket depths, if the large rifl e uniformer is
used on large pistol cases, primers will be seated too deeply, resulting in misfi res or hangfi res.
Place the deprimed case primer pocket onto the tool, attempt to keep the case as straight, vertically, as possible and press
down on the uniformer. Remove the case and inspect the bottom of the primer pocket. You are looking for a clean fl at cut
on the bottom of the pocket. Repeat as needed to clear brass chips and obtain the fl atness. The tool is manufactured to
the ideal depth setting, no adjustment is possible.
Do not tip the case side to side as you are uniforming as you can deepen and open up the base of the primer pocket. This
can result in a deformed primer pocket that can cause detonation problems.
The sharp edges of the primer pocket cutter can grab the case if you attempt to insert the case rapidly. Insert the case
carefully and apply pressure slowly, allowing the Brass Boss to do the work. You may need to remove the case, clear the
brass chips and continue cutting for irregular primer pockets.
This operation is required only once for the life of each case.
