SHARPENING THE SAW CHAIN
WARNING
Unplug unit from power source before servicing. Severe injury or death could occur from electrical
shock or body contact with moving chain. Cutting edges on chain are sharp. Use protective gloves
when handling chain.
Keep chain sharp. Your saw will cut faster and more safely. A dull chain will cause undue sprocket,
guide bar, chain, and motor wear. If you must force chain into wood and cutting creates only
sawdust with a few large chips, then chain is dull.
The machine is equipped with the integrated sharpening system, a fast and easy way to sharpen
the chain on the saw. It is time to sharpen the saw chain when cuts take longer or the wood chips
become smaller, in extreme cases turning to saw dust.
1. With the saw at full speed, lightly lift the activation lever for sharpening the chain for 5-10
seconds. Sparks will be visible when the cutters are in contact with the sharpening stone.
Make a test cut to determine if the chain has been sufficiently sharpened. If not, repeat the
sharpening procedure until the chain is sufficiently sharp.
CAUTION: SHARPENING WITH THE INTEGRATED SHARPENING SYSTEM PRODUCES
LOW ENERGY SPARKS.
WARNING: POWERSHARP SHOULD NOT BE USED IN THE PRESENCE OF EXPOSED,
EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE MATERIALS, SUCH AS GASOLINE AND ACETYLENE.
IMPORTANT: IT IS NORMAL TO SEE A SMALL AMOUNT OF SPARKS AND SMOKE
DURING SHARPENING, AS THE CUTTERS CONTACT THE STONE AND FRICTION
HEATS THE CHAIN.
