11 APPLICATION INFORMATION

Before starting the treatment please make sure:
You have read and understood the content of this manual.
The brakes on the wheels of the device are locked.
You strictly follow the WARNINGS and CAUTIONS mentioned under precautionary
instructions.
• Check the patient for any possible contra-indications.
• Always perform a routine skin sensation test prior to a SWT application when a
thermal effect is anticipated (i.e. a mean power in excess of 5W).
• Make sure the patient is in a comfortable position.
• Use only metal free furniture (wooden, glued furniture. See Optional accessories
section).
• Patients under treatment must not be able to touch surrounding metal objects
such as metal furniture, radiators or window-frames.
• Remove clothing from the treatment area.
• Remove all hearing aids, watches, rings, chains, bracelets and other metal
objects before starting the treatment.
• Select the appropriate electrode(s):
a. Circuplode Ø 140 mm: for the treatment of larger body parts such as hip
and shoulder joints
b. Circuplode Ø 90 mm: for the treatment of small body parts such as wrist
and ankle joints
c. Circuplode-E: for the treatment of large oblong shaped body parts such
as knee joints.
• Set the appropriate parameters like indicated in this instructions for use.
• Bring the electrodes in the appropriate position by moving the arm and
electrode like indicated in this instructions for use.
• Position the electrode close to the skin. Preferably max. 1 cm distance.
• Use a single layer of absorbent toweling between the patient and the electrode
to absorb any perspiration produced during the treatment and to prevent the
development of hot spots due to pooling of perspiration on the skin's surface.
• Start the treatment.
• Treatment will only start if sufficient energy can be transferred to the tissue. If
contact control is okay, time will start counting down and the led-light on the
Circuplode will light up to indicate therapy is in progress.
• Always determine the dosage based on the patient's perception of heat. Any
sensation greater than mild warmth could cause a burn.
• If the patient experiences more than mild heating, reduce intensity.
• We recommend not to increase the set intensity during treatment.
• Treatment stops automatically when the treatment time has elapsed.
• Ask the patient to report on any reaction that may occur.
• Regularly check for the patient`s feedback on the subjective perception of heat.
This shall not be more than a "mitis" dose, which means only a slight or mild
sensation of heat may be felt.
