Determining if the Hydraulic System Resulted in the Pump Failure
Before replacing the pump, ensure that the hydraulic system on the boat is compatible with the pump, or if there is a
problem with the installation that caused the pump to fail.
1. Verify that the pump is installed in a hydraulic system with a vented reservoir.
It may be possible to add a vent to the system if needed. Check with the manufacturer of the helm or the

reservoir for more information.
If it is not possible to add a vent to the system, a different pump may be needed. Contact your Garmin
•
representative for more information.
2. Verify that the return hose from the pump to the helm is straight, with no sharp bends, pinches, or crimps.
3. Verify that the return hose from the pump to the helm is clear and unblocked.
If necessary, you can disconnect the return hose from the pump to verify that fluid flows freely through the hose.
