Installing the Communication Assembly

1. Insert the new communication assembly in the Connection Unit.
2. Fasten the communication assembly to the
Connection Unit using three of the provided screws.
Tighten the two outer screws first and then the center
screw (TX20; torque: 3.5 Nm ± 0.5 Nm (30.98 in-
lb ± 4.43 in-lb)).
3. Plug the ribbon cable connecting the communication
assembly to the Power Unit into the jack on the
communication assembly.
4. If necessary, install the communication modules (see the manual of the communication
module).
5. Commission the inverter without a network connection (see inverter manual). By replacing the
communication assembly, the firmware of the inverter is updated. This process can take several
minutes. Ensure that the network connection is established only after the inverter has been
commissioned so that no incorrect serial number is sent to a possibly existing communication
product.
6. Disconnect the inverter from voltage sources and open the Connection Unit (see inverter
manual).
7. Insert all plugs into the respective sockets of the communication assembly.
8. Recommission the new inverter (see inverter manual).
9. Attach the provided label with new identification key
(PIC), new registration ID (RID) and new WLAN
password (WPA2-PSK) to right side of the
Connection Unit. Please note that the
communication assembly is issued a new RID, PIC
and WPA2-PSK due to the replacement.
10. Establish a connection to the user interface and configure the inverter via the installation
assistant (see the inverter manual).
11. If the inverter is registered in Sunny Portal, replace the inverter in Sunny Portal (see installation
manual "Replacement of SMA Devices in Systems with Communication Products" at
www.SMA-Solar.com).
